Soon after I picked up my G80, I have noticed it rattle from the rear on bumpy surfaces, I had a couple of rear passengers recently who managed to localise it to the parcel shelf which appears not to be fastened down to the rear cross member. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how did you fix it?

Yes, I've had it in both my previous 340 touring and now M3 touring, I've used felt tape to improve matters, but haven't managed to get rid of it altogether, I believe it's quite a well known issue.

Thanks, I will have a go with a felt or similar heavy material as a wide(ish) strip under the edge under the back window and report back....

OP: Yours is a G80 saloon, so the fix for the G81 touring does not really apply.

True, but a few posts from US forums have also suggested using felt, foam or similar under the shelf as it doesn't seem to be fastened to the cross member

Good to see BMW upholding tradition.

Peer into the parcel shelf void of any e46 which doesn't have a creaking squeak from there and you'll find tennis balls wedged in as dampers.
