I've just renewed my VED on my 2001 Chim (ist registered March 2001) and i's cost £345 , which appears correct

My 2006 Tuscan is due next month( 1st registered 1st Aprill 2006) and therefore thought to meet EURO 4 compliance smile . I wonder if I'll be lucky and come in at £140 ? woohoo

Seems hardly worth the saving, once you've done the van conversion?

PLG is tax class 11; the £140 applies to tax class 36. Hate to burst bubble, but it's not happening.

Perhaps you could point me in the right direction for the Government Page that tells me the cost of a 2006 PLG Petrol car then ? Built under a Ministers Approval Certificate.

I was looking at it earlier today: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-f...
And can you tell me where a PLG without CO2 emissions sits ? Because I'm not paying £735 !!!

TVRs don't even appear on the Governmentt Certification site

It's here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/660...

From: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/rates-o...

It references Euro 4 light goods vehicles (tax class 36) weighing no more than 3,500kg: no mention of cars, or PLG

So where is my TVR ?
The point being ALL cars after 1st April 2006 should be EURO 4 complaint ... but we know different and they don't

This probably helps a bit, even though it is about the subset of imported cars, rather than just those without CO2 figures.

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/185384/w...

I would be surprised if a car that hasn't got a CO2 figure has got Euro4 approval, as I suspect the tests would be done at the same time.

I recall there's a field on the V5C that tells you what emissions test the car has passed.

I believe post 1/4/2006 TVRs pay VED as a PLG, like a van. Low production/ emission compliance or something, currently £335 p.a.

Same goes for most imports first used in their country of origin after that date. People bringing in JDM cars and their like don't argue, especially since they'd be £700 + otherwise. smile

Only for a PC not a PLG ,nearly 20 years ago I spent 2 years with the DVLA getting my car correctly registered as a PLG and not a PC. A lot of PH TVR owners used me as a test case to get theirs corrected ... I bet they're glad now smile

Your TVR is not a light goods vehicle: that it's Euro 4 is not relevant. There's a separate table specifically for vehicles in Tax class 11, private/light good vehicle - that's where your car sits.

Simple solution. How much was it last year? It will not have changed class.

That £140 VED for vehicles between '03 and '06 was an incentive for people to buy Euro 4 compliant vans. If you have one, great, otherwise it's £335 p.a.

My sister wanted a dog van and those vans that qualify tend to sell for a premium. frown

Even at £335 p.a. it sounds great value for money with the upgraded 4500cc engine and a clean slate re Mots, would be interesting to know the true emissions, best not shared on here though smile

If I put the cats in, my Cerbera passes the emissions test.

MOT Emission tests are for CO and HC (Hydrocarbons in general) whereas VED charges are CO2 based.(unless you're a Private/Light Goods Vehicle smile )
