We are in the middle of renovating a old house and made the decision some time ago to do without an Aerial on the roof and go digital only for TV.

To be fair we dont watch that much TV anyway mostly films, but on the odd time we do watch TV I am finding a bit of a pain switching between each of the Apps on our Samsung TV's.

The Freeview Plus app is not compatible with either of our Samsung TV's so as far as I can see the only option is some sort of set top box to add in multi channel freeview on a single menu.

The limited number of set top boxes I can find (Manhattan, Humax) however seem to still suggest an Aerial to get live freeview and indeed seem in some way to interface with bbc iplayer, itv x-player etc....

Can anyone point me in the direction of a set top box that works 100% off ethernet-r45 or wifi ONLY and would give all the main channels in a single menu without constantly switching apps.

Cheers

Apple TV box, or Fire Stick, but go second-hand to save even more.

Thanks I’ll have a look at Apple TV box but I’ve already discounted a fire stick as I don’t believe it’s compatible with freeview play app.

Or is there another way to get all the channels on a fire stick?

Ok does an Apple TV box have the basic freeview channels I’m after all in one place?

I tried downloading the Apple TV+ app on my Samsung tv but I can’t see any sign of the channels I do want and it was trying to push a subscription for content I wasn’t wanting. So hence asking if the Apple TV set top box is different.?

I don’t mind paying a little bit for a set top box but I don’t want anything involving a subscription - just want all the usual free channels in one combined app / menu / device.

You can get any channel you want on a Firestick whistle

All in one app? I already have all the channels I want, it’s just a PITA firing up each app separately to flick thru 3-4 channels before needing to run a different app, only find out nothing of interest there either….

If you're refurbing a house, why not just install an aerial and cabling to each TV position? As you have found out, it's still the best way to watch Freeview TV.

We are past the point of no return on that already in terms of plastering etc...

Besides that we are in a valley and the house previously had an enormous aerial on a very long pole to get a signal that was really unsightly, so I made the decision to take it down and not replace it.

Oh well, you'll have to struggle with internet TV then. At some point in the future there will be a way to make it work.
