Bearing Confusion!
I need to change the motor bearings on my old bandsaw. One of the old bearings is stamped 6204Z JAPAN and the other
6203Z JAPAN.
I gather that the numbers designate the bearing size and I can find lots of matching bearings listed by suppliers but they have more than a simple Z following the number. For instance 6203ZZ, 62032Z, 6203ZZC3 etc.
These additional letters obviously indicate other properties or specifications of those bearings, but how do I choose the right ones for my application?
The motor is a 1hp 1450rpm induction motor.

There are lots of bearing tables out there explaining what the numbers and codes mean.. I am no expert, but looks like you would be fine with something like this: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ball-bearings/12623...

The letters denote what type/ if a seal is used or on both sides.
A single Z means one side open, one side closed.

As you have found the numbers give you the size specification. The letters are used to specify other requirements such as shielded or unshielded.

A single z means one side had a single metal shield, used to keep dust etc out.

ZZ means two metallic shield, 2Z the same.

RS means rubber seals, help to keep grease or oil in the bearing or gear case. Not as reliable as a dedicated oil seal.

2RS, two rubber seals.

C2, C3 etc are the class of the bearing, C2 has reduced internal clearances for more accurate control of shaft position. C3 is normal clearance, from memory.

ZZ bearings would probably be ok, you can pop one shield out if you want to absolutely duplicate what you have.
