I'll be passing through Le Mans in August when there's nothing scheduled and am thinking of making a stop there. Aside from the museum are there any good locations to take photos of my car on the public road sections of the track?

Anywhere along the Mulsanne, if you go at a quiet time. The armco in the background.
Not just photogenic - atmospheric - well it was for me - it's much narrower than you might imagine - freaked me a bit thinking about what goes on there - I don't know if anyone else felt the same?

You can more or less drive 100% of the original 1923 circuit as that pre-dates the private section from the Porsche curves to Tetre Rouge. Follow the current circuit from Tetre Rouge to Mulsanne, across to Arnage, and up to the entrance of the Porsche Curves but then (as you have to) stick on the D139 up past the main circuit entrance and under the D326 ring road, where the D338 gets named "Rue de Laigne". Keep going straight on Rue de Laigne until you hit the D338 where you're forced into a slight right/360 around the roundabout/back on yourself/first right back onto Rue de Laigne detour. Again follow Rue de Laigne till you hit the Pontlieue hairpin. Sharp right onto Avenue Georges Durand and follow that back to the D326 ring road where it's 2nd exit at the first roundabout/under the D326/first exit at the second roundabout, and back at Tetre Rouge.easy to drive round barriers for shots on both chicanes and also about 150m into closed off bit at start of Porsche curves in front of banking and Porsche sign on grass if its not grown too much. Plus indianapolis
driving public bits great - can drive from Arnage to Mulsanne corner roundabout and then back the right way through Indianapolis is a great run.
If time the Hotel De France, Le Chartre sur le loir is a good venue with photo opps in front of Hotel or in square and a drink there or meal. 40 mins SSW of Le Mans circuit and D 304 has some great straights and bends

All the circuit bar the Porsche Curves up to Tertre Rouge will be open to all traffic when the roads are closed, those being Le Mans in June and Le Mans Classic in July. So good places for photos are the main circuit entrance, Mulsanne, Indianapolis and Arnage. Here' an idea for you, ouside of the golf club at Mulsanne
