What do you to keep your car safe in addition to keeping it in a secure car park of course and having a tracker.

Do you recommend any steering wheel locks?

Any smart immobiliser inc Ghost?

Anything else that can really keep it protected?

I have a dashcam but it relies on 4G network to record data - but often it's in a basement car park where there is no 4g connection.

Super appreciate any tips!!

1. Ghost Immobiliser - Nearly invisible, PIN-code based system that prevents theft even with key cloning

2. Disklok Steering Wheel Lock - Highly visible deterrent and very difficult to defeat physically

3. OBD Port Lock - Critical for modern cars; prevents thieves from programming new keys

4. Kill Switch - Hidden emergency cutoff for fuel or ignition systems

5. Dashcam with Local Storage - Get one with parking mode and motion detection that doesn't rely on 4G

6. Faraday Pouch for Keys - Simple but effective protection against relay attacks

7. Pedal Lock - Additional physical barrier that's visible and time-consuming to defeat.

Many thanks!

I looked up Ghost - there is also a fob version - where if you don't have the fob (instead of the pin) the car doesn't turn on. I assume it's the same level of security?

Also - how is it installed exactly - do they cut wires in the car? When it comes to selling the car - are there irreversible damage/adjustments made to the car due to having Ghost installed?

Thanks

The Ghost fob version gives similar security to the PIN version. The fob is more convenient (keep it in pocket) while the PIN might be slightly more secure (nothing physical to steal).

Installation connects to your car's CAN bus without cutting critical wires. It's:
- Completely reversible
- Invisible once installed

To add…

Diskok diamond is (almost) angle grinder proof

Also hide an Apple air tag or two, very cheap and enabled me to find my stolen car.

Battery 2G tracker also a cheap addition to a pro tracker.

Thanks for this. I assume with the apple air tags you can literally put them anywhere inside/outside of the car?

I'm curious with these trackers/including the 2g tracker - is there a way for thieves to find it using any particular machine? or they simple have to look around?

Also - if ghost is "simple" to install - surely criminals are familiar with it and know how to dismantle it? or not?

Cheers,

AirTags can go anywhere you can attach them - I use gorilla tape or magnetic / waterproof holder as required.

Few local people have foiled thefts using these. The benefit it that they are so small they can be hidden away and hard to get out even if a thief has triggered the sound notification if they are alerted to an air tag following them.

No idea re battery / 2G tracker - but again pretty small and battery lasts 3months - I spend £1 per year on 2G card.

Ghosts are very very hard to find, my installer says he often can’t find ones he has installed when swapping them out…they need to keep detailed install notes to find them. Cars only tend to get stolen with them fitted if the thief is associated with the fitter or they guess the code…again, has thwarted quite a few local thefts.

Sad state of affairs either way, just aim to make sure you car looks least attractive along with recovery tech installed. I also have bollards installed on the drive - £1,250 for two fitted, company hasn’t had a customer theft when installed.

noted. thanks for the tips.

re ghost being fitted and associated with the fitter - then I guess it's smart to have the ghost fitted elsewhere then the actual car park you keep the car so if potentially the fitter is a crook - he doesn't know where the car is fitted. Perhaps keep an eye watch on him too while installing - as if the airtags can go both ways - e.g. the fitter putting one on your car - to potentially target it?

I cannot believe after all the advancement we have made there is still no bulletproof approach to all this.

ALSO: is it common that people install a Ghost on an Aventador? Or is that not so common?

Thanks

AirTags will alert people if they are being followed by one not registered to them.

This could be a pro or a con depending how you look at it

Ok got it.

Actually as I'm on Samsung - is there any Android equivalents?

I just googled it - and found this? I assume they work the same way

The issue with all this is it makes it less likely you will use it. I have several big, physical locks on my old land rover and it often means I can't be bothered to unlock it to pop out for a short drive, so I take my boring car. :-(

It's definitely a trade off

I used a well regarded fitter and I trust the guys who do the install…”nice nerds”…..ghost installed thefts are very very rare, and you can change your pin post fitting. I also tell anyone working on my car that I have all sorts of hidden security features just in case.

I have one AirTag but use Tile on my motorcycles as they don’t alert to their presence. The ones I have don’t have replaceable batteries which I didn’t realise before buying.

got it thanks.

One more thing - if you're parking in a secure car park - this is a little cold - are you concerned?

I know it might sound dumb but while we're at it...

I mean at what temprature does it become a serious concern? I'm concerned about security obviously as you can see - and considering some safe options for parking - and some of them are actully a bit cold. I'm guessing it's ok - I mean it's not like 5 degrees or freezing temprature. but is even usual cold weather bad like day out today around 10-14 degrees for parking?

cheers

Temperature is not an issue - humidity is. Make sure that the underground parking is properly ventilated if it doesn’t have a professionel air-conditioning system. Minimum use a dehumidifier.

Is the first bit of grumbling when you drive an aventador normal?
like when you drive it for the first 10-20 seconds it's grumbling like there is something rolling underneath the car.. I don't know how to describe it lol

thanks

Phil.
