Do you have one of these? We use one to give sunroom a quick boost in the morning.

Realised I service gas boiler annually but never had the portable fire checked, must be 30 years old!

Tried to find a registered engineer to safety check it but no one interested, searched online and recommendation was to change regulator and hose every three years, oops

So ordered both and fitted them but could feel a slight wisp of gas when opening valve so e mailed Calor for advice. They informed me this is normal so all good.

Gas system is checked as a whole unit on a floaty thing to obtain a Boat Safety Certificate every four years, perhaps follow a similar routine regarding the flexi hose?

The safety check on a boiler is mainly to check the combustion products are going up the flue and it’s burning cleanly.

On a portable gas heater there isn’t any flue, that’s down to you opening a window, and you can see if it’s burning cleanly. Any leaks and stinkingly obvious and of course strictly limited in volume, albeit LPG sinks.

Nope, tried local Calor agent, he did recommend someone, they never phoned me though. Tried every man and their dog to get someone failed miserably.

We live outside Dundee and main dual carriageway through Dundee is like the wacky races, not willing to drive on it with a bottle of gas in boot, delivery a fiver, worth it IMO

Be careful with these. I just skipped mine as it was burning yellow, spitting and farting.

The 15kg empty Calor bottle will be swopped in for a spare 3.6kg propane dumpy for the campervan.

Every cloud...

I think you're on the right track, old gas heaters are a bit finicky. That little gas wispy request might be normal, but the smart play would be to get a carbon monoxide sensor.
