Anti-biotic Eye ointment

So, managed to get an eye injury this week and was given a tube of eye ointment to put in a few times a day.
Question is, how the hell does anyone get it in?
It come out the tube in a stringy mass and trying to get it into my lower eye lid, it just keeps ending up at the bottom of my eye lashes.
Tried rubbing it in as well but that doesn't work either.
Now, the only reason i know it isnt going in is because i got it the first time, and by f
k did that make it sting, so i know what should be happening!
Might give up completely but my eye keeps gunging up!

I did wonder why they don't give drops when I stabbed myself in the eye with the tip of a palm leaf gardening a year or so ago.
Usually put the cream on your finger tip, pull your lower eyelid out and load the cream into the 'bucket' you've created. Put the eyelid back over it and then when you blink it'll apply to the eye, for me it just made things blurry for a bit.

Chloramphenicol ointment? Stupid stuff that seems to go everywhere except where you need it!

Look up toward the ceiling and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small "pocket." Instead of trying to put the ointment directly onto your eyeball, aim for that pocket you've created in your lower lid. Squeeze a small amount (about 1/4 inch or 0.5cm) of the ointment into this pocket, then close your eye and roll your eyeball around a bit to help distribute it.
The stinging sensation is actually a good sign it's getting where it needs to be. The ointment will naturally melt with your body heat and spread across your eye when you blink.
