Over the past week I've been getting some suspicious log in attempts, I changed passwords but today I've officially been hacked. It seems linked to an instagram account though I've no idea how that works.

Anyway, Facebook now tell me my account has been disabled. Which seems sensible right up until you find out there's no way to un-disable it.

Is that it? Everything facebook tells me to do results in nowt. About the furthest I've gotten is to start an account recovery questionnaire but when it moves onto providing a new email address, every one I try flags up as invalid? Mine, our family one, our yahoo ones, business acounts? It just won't let me go any further.

A bit stumped really.

Not that I thought it was anything great but a lot of memories were (perhaps stupidly) stored on there, contacts and chat groups that I can no longer access...

Thats it I'm afraid. That's the power of Facebook and their lack of support.

The exact thing happened to me. Someone linked an Insta account that broke the guidelines, something like that. I even unlinked the account but it made no odds. No one every replied to any methods of contact I attempted. I just created a new account with a different name.

Subsequently, I don't use it for photos, friends etc etc, I just use it for groups. Treat your account as disposable. Its that bad.

Mrs DG' FB was hacked yesterday - like the OP a real ballache to try and re-set, though we did finally manage to do so. 'Amusingly' enough there are countless "prove it's you" steps to go through... hurffgaribc0@hotmail.com seemed to have no issues 'proving' it was them when they took over the account and trying to get rid of this e-mail as a contact is proving to be a real ballache. fking facebook furious

What makes this worrying (for us oldish people) is that there is absolutely no way to speak to any 'helpdesk' or similar - which is the way a lot of our important services seem to be heading frown

The same happened to me, at a very stressful time when my father was receiving end of life care. I was using it to collate memories and photos of him and I lost all access to it and like others there was no way to recover anything. No way of speaking to anyone other than the automated account recovery tool which would not recognise any of my personal details or recovery options.

Turn on 2FA for everything that you can and download authentication apps to your phone. Shouldn’t be relying on username and password where 2FA exists.

Was your wife's account disabled as mine has been? If so how did you manage it? I'm still at a brick wall.

luckily it seems to have 'only' been hacked and not disabled, I guess we caught it in time? Whichever way you slice things it's still a PiTA frown
