Hoping to do some sprints this year, car needs to be fwd and 1.6 litre, Obvious choices are Swifts, Twingo and Citroens like C2.
Issue is Swifts are getting long in the tooth and the 31 is sadly being attacked by goons who faff with them, Twingo is rare as is Citroen, anything else perky found a few things like a VVT Auris, presumably uses same motor as Swift? DS3 Vti?
Budget is roughly 3 grand, going to be a second car.

No mention of minimum weight so i'd be looking older/smaller than a DS3 - probably urinating in the breeze trying to find a Civic VTi for <£3k nowadays, might get lucky and find a Saxo VTS, maybe a leggy Lupo GTI (would want the 6 speed box for sprint/hillclimbing). IME weight is one of the biggest enemies in such short course events, more modern cars will naturally be heavier and possibly introduce intrusive driver aids that can't be fully disabled (Panda 100HP for example).
Agreed the issue with older and smaller is they will likely be knackered, very old with all sorts of issues. I get your point though, I was looking at stuff like Auris DS3 merely as they are relatively cheap, a little newer than the Swift and not as likely to be dear to run in terms of insurance and the like, also noticed a lot of older Swifts have been messed about with, and would not touch anything like that
Assuming we are talking naturally aspirated, there's plenty of 1.6 MINIs available. There's even the coupe version that is very slightly lighter than the normal hatchback version....
The RS Twingo is the most powerful 1.6 NA option if there's the post-2000 'standard car' cutoff that discounts the Civic VTi (the worst car I ever owned, but would be perfect for this).

Why does it have to be a 1600?
That is the capacity cutoff for the class structure in some regions. (Which helpfully allows 1.6 turbo cars to fit into a sub-2.3 litre (1.6 x 1.4) class rather than be bundled into the 'over 2 litre' class with loads of Scooby/Evos/Porsches/etc.)Truckosaurus said:

My first thought was a Fiesta ST
Or there's the 'Metal' trim on the Fiesta if we are staying with non-turbo (I assume) which is basically an ST with the Zetec-S engine and better exhaust so has a few more ponies.(Plenty of tuning options on the 1.6 Fiestas as well).

Can anyone give me a steer on what models and years you are looking for for that model Fiesta?
The 118bhp Fiesta 1.6 (either ZetecS or Titanium spec) is 2008 to 2012The 133bhp versions were S1600 in 2010-11 and Metal 2011-12.
Basically they were all knocked on the head in 2013 when the 1.6-turbo ST came out.
