Hi all,

Looking to get my first bike (since I was a kid at least lol). I was thinking Hybrid Sport would be my best bet, I'll be doing mostly road with maybe some light trails, nothing too crazy. Just trying to find a way to improve fitness and lose weight without slogging it out in the gym wink

Budget somewhere around 500, but this is flexible as I'll be using a cycle to work scheme.

Did a bit of browsing and found these two options which seem fairly highly rated, do these seem like good bets to you guys?

All the best x

I rather like the look of the middle one. Sensible 2x9 drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, mudguards and integrated lights.

Obviously the normal provisos apply re buying a bike from Halfords as it might have been set up by a muppet.

I would buy the Trek and fit a set of mudguards

Try and support your local bike shop if you can.
They may even let you try several bikes, have used bikes or ex demos for sale.

It may seem like a punishment when you first start cycling again. BUT stick at it and it opens a whole new world up for you.

Giant Roams may be in your bracket: I did a cycle tour of Albania (around 40m per day) and Roams were supplied as part of the package.

I have a Giant Toughroad. These can be found heavily discounted now.

Good luck.

Would definitely prefer to do this, but I think my cycle to work scheme just provides a voucher for halfords - I'll see what turns up though.

Tour of Albania looks gorgeous. What a dream

That picture is actually Scotland, Tighnabruaich. On the Five Ferries Route on my Giant Roam.

This was Albania on the Greek border IIRC. It was June 22 rather hot, too hot at 35 deg

This is a whole lot of bike for the money. I’ve had one for a couple of years, and it does what the reviews say it does.
