I have quite a lot of DVDs that were recorded in 4:3, unfortunately my existing combination of Sony DVD player and Samsung TV cannot, between them or separately produce a 4:3 viewing screen, resulting in some bearable but irritating vertical squishing.

It would be easier to replace the player than the TV so I've been researching various players, but the ability to play in 4:3 is not something that the sales information ever includes, so I wondered if anyone knew of a player that would meet my needs?

I use the aspect ratio adjustment on my LG OLED TV to zoom ine & watch films where needed.. the purists will say that is not how the film director intended the film to be watched. I don't care, i've bought the dvd & will watch how I please.

Aspect ratios are fun, and have been at the forefront of my mind lately... given my new VHS player. rofl

HDMI output and everything... I think it's currently set to "just scan". I need to take a look at it, but for backing up ancient recordings to DVD, it's more than sufficient, and came straight out at 4:3 on my PC.

Yes, that's me. hehe

The display is where you change the ratio, not the source.

Unfortunately my TV doesn't have the ability to show 4:3, but I have a strong feeling that a DVD player I owned in the distant past could cope with that. Can't remember the make and model though, even if I did I don't suppose it's still available.

Model number of display?

I'd be very surprised...every TV I've had since the late 90s has this feature.

Same here, my Samsung does it.

I suspect the issue is that it's so rarely used now it's been relegated deep into the settings menus.

Samsung claim this works on most of their current tv's: https://www.samsung.com/ph/support/tv-audio-video/...

My eight-year-old Panasonic has a button on the remote labelled “Aspect”. I guess I’m just lucky.
