2016-2018 pre-OPF W205 C63?
Discussion
I have a £30k budget and I was originally after a 2015-2017 BMW F10 M5 Competition Pack or the M6 Coupe (still am if a good one comes up within commuting distance of me)
I’m admittedly a self-confessed BMW M car fanboy, but at a local dealer the other day while impatience set in I spotted a 2018 Merc C63 AMG saloon (non S which I preferred)… I had a play with it and I quite liked it… – seemed incredible value and A LOT of car for the money – it was up for £30k with only 20,000 miles on it… if it wasn’t for being in white with black wheels I would’ve done the deal there and then probably!
The only things I didn’t like about the car were the gear selector being a stalk on the steering column, the centre console feeling a bit plasticky & rattley, and the cumbersome infotainment would take a bit of getting used to. The standard comfort seats felt firmer than I thought they would too. But I’m sure I could get used to all of that…
I’m guessing one of these would be more reliable than an LCi F10 M5 Comp or M6. But then the emotional heart decision would sway me towards the M car, as it’s a performance step-up and class step-up inside for the same money… Interestingly where I am in NZ, a good similar year & mileage F80 M3/M4 start from £35k and I think the C63 would be a better daily with the better interior and much more characterful engine

I agree with MustangGT here, you are comparing very different cars. The M5/6 are more super saloon/coupe whereas a C63 is more of a german muscle car. More like the M3/4.
That being said, Ive always found the interior design on the BMWs to be deeply disapointing and the sound is only good when pushing on. The AMGs on the other hand give you drama even when you are doing 10mph! Personally i rarely drive my cars at their limit so I'd rather enjoy them even when sat in traffic. Thats why i like the AMGs.
The C63 is a great allrounder. Many have big miles, many are used as second or third cars.
The interior centre console can be changed for a black open pore ash wood one, many have done that mod. I even find the infotainment dead simple once i got used to it... get a facelift if you want slightly better tech.
Any questions fire away. There have been a few W205 C63 threads on here recently that are worth a look!

I had the later W205 C63S facelift... It's all about the engine and the endless torque the motor produces. Some will say the 4.0L TT isn't as characterful etc as the W204 6.2L NA.
Even in the later cars the infotainment system was a bit dated, no touchscreen, using the jog wheel, although there are steering wheel controls also. All Merc's seem to have the column shift, but it's literally drive, park, reverse... you can either leave the car in auto, switch to manual and use the paddles or leave in auto and use the paddles.
It was a big car but it's probably a similar size to the BM's you're looking at.

Just one thing, the C class is the 3/4 series size, an E class would be the equivalent of the M5/6
Yeah I know that already. But where I live, oddly these C63 AMGS are cheaper than the equivalent M3/M4 by about 5 grand, and the F10 M5s & M6s are the same price as the C63A44RON said:

Don't worry about that.
You will soon get used to the different location and then find it really rather good, quick and convenient.
It also frees the transmission tunnel area for other uses.
Occasionally slightly peculiar, if you also drive other cars. By habit on a few occasions, my left arm has reached out to select reverse gear, only to find nothing there.

Am I reading that right? You think the C63 is a ‘big car’???? A Mercedes C class is the same class/size as the following:
BMW 3/4
Audi A4/5
Skoda Octavia
Ford Focus
None of these are big cars, the official category is 'small' car.
Yes it is bigger than 'mini', 'supermini' and 'micro' cars.
BMW 5 series is a 'medium' car as is the Mercedes E class, and is definitely bigger than a C class.

You'll get used to it! I've just got my first E class with it, and using it for awhile you'll love it!
So convenient, especially with parking manoeuvres to just quickly flick up / down with your hand that's already on the wheel. After using it for a few months, it just makes sense....and I question why all cars don't have it
