F1 Testing 2025
Discussion
I couldn’t see a post on this,
I’m more excited than I should be looking forward to this year.
McLaren think they are .5sec up on the car that finished in 2024 I wonder what everyone else has found.
A lot of eyes will be on the 44 car but Ferrari always seems quicker in testing than the first race.

Fingers crossed for McLaren that the wind tunnel/CFD/simulator outputs match reality - wouldn't be the first time a team has had a huge wake up call on day 1 of testing...I’m more excited than I should be looking forward to this year.

Quietly confident that Williams will have a decent car and be a regular in the top 6 this year too!

I think the only time testing has ever really been exciting, was in 2020 when Mercedes shocked everyone with DAS.
Rumours this year are that McLaren and Ferrari have gone with a ‘revolutionary’ new car, substantially new compared to last year’s, whereas Red Bull and Mercedes have gone with an ‘evolutionary’ new car, substantially based on last year’s.
It will be fascinating to see how those different strategies play out, the evolutionary car should be easier to dial in, but the revolutionary car could either give better ultimate performance or be a relative dud. The evolutionary car should also give more headroom to invest in the ‘26 car, which will be very much revolutionary for everyone!

Apparently one of the reasons they did so well last year was that they got all of those tools working well together, in particular their new high tech wind tunnel.Ferrari are the only other team to have a similar new wind tunnel at the moment, with several other teams rushing to build or upgrade theirs.
Going back a couple of years, the Williams was always described in the pre testing press as being a very daring design full of interesting features. Then was anonymous in testing and the season, due to them not actually having bothered to do anything.
None of that now ,with new manglement and personnel , they should do well now press tea and biccy budget has gone into
making the car.

I’m interested in how Aston Martin are going to perform this season. Especially how their in season development progresses with Adrian Newey joining the team in the next week or so. Do they not also have brand new wind tunnel? It would be great to see Alonso and Hamilton having a season long rivalry.

Yep, the there new wind tunnel was completed last year. That’s only potential though… many times teams have arrived at the track for preseason testing or in season upgrades only to come up short of the expectations promised from developments in the wind tunnel. Hopefully Aston are on point with the calibration. We keep getting told that the field will be bunched up due to finite gains from the runaway leaders who have realized every last millisecond the cars capable of.
In this case even the backmarkers should be about equal in 2025 as they had easy gains available.
Sounds like b
ks to me.
I would like to thinK Aston can get back to where they were 2 years ago.
Newey said he prefers to go to a team where he can add something, and bring a team forward.
Maybe Aston dropped off in 2024 on purpose to lure him in.
