Afternoon all,

My mini came with some Accelera 651 S semi slick tyres on it. I've done about 8k commuting and now need to change the fronts. Any recommendations for a general road biased tyre in the standard 205/45 R17 size?

Preferably not the most expensive, but avoiding linglongs, landsails etc!

Let me know your thoughts below....

PFA,

Same standard size as an MX5 NC and similar performance.

The go-to mid range tyre on those cars if you dont want to spend on Michelin is the Kumho PS71 - it just seems to 'work' well on those cars. Good feel, good road manners, dont instantly melt on the odd trackday, and brilliant value.

Going up to 215 wide is also the done thing on those, tyres are much cheaper and they work well with the extra meat. No idea what width the wheels are on the Mini though.

PS5s on mine, incredible grip and hardly wearing considering the abuse they get. They were about £10 per tyre more than the PS4s but allegedly last twice as long yet have the same performance.

Have you both fitted the standard size, and what weight rating? As I've noticed a lot of tyres in this size have a weight rating far in excess of what the mini requires!

Mine are standard size-I’m afraid I haven’t a clue about the weight rating

I've got Kumho PS71s on mine which I'm happy with for the price.

Thanks, given this is the banger commuter in the family household Kumho is more in the budget range. A fun banger commuter none the less.

The Kumhos were £160 for the pair fitted near to work, I couldn't find any Uniroyal stockists locally.
