A buddy of mine has just got back from skiiing in Austria and reminded me of an Austrian desert I used to love - Germknödel.

I've never seen them available in the UK, and even the spiced plum jam in them is very hard to get, so I thought I'd ask the PH collective if they know of anywhere in the UK I can get a Germknödel

Fantastic stuff, I feast on this when skiing in Austria!

One shared at lunchtime is guaranteed to keep you going for the rest of the day.

Never seen it available here but it's a yeast dumpling with liquid butter, seeds and custard so it can't be too hard to make?

You can get plum butter on Amazon uk and it looks fairly easy to make, lots of recipes online.

Yes, fallback option will be to make them myself.

Amazon really is handy isn't it. I'd not looked for quite a while - last time I looked for powidl there was one Austrian delicatessen in london that stocked it - and was closed every time I tried to visit.

Here's what I've found so far:
https://www.germinger.com/ - I think these guys make & supply them in London
https://www.instagram.com/supermarketofdreams/?hl=... - potentially the above lot sell here
https://kingston.stein-s.com/ - this restaurant lists them
https://kipferl.co.uk/products/stauds-austrian-plu... - Kipferl is the shop I tried to buy from years ago.

Need to find a source of crushed poppy seeds - and will then likely make my own from scratch with the kids the next time the Mrs is out.

Good luck recreating this dish! The food is one of the reasons I live skiing in Austria. Simple and filling meals are a great boost after hard day or at lunchtime while skiing.

I had some great Tiroler Speckknodel up in the mountains above Kitzbuhel for lunch, herby dumplings dotted with smoked ham in a well seasoned broth and topped with sauerkraut. With a big glass of skiwasser came to about €12.

Saved a big slice of strudel and custard for dinner!

On this topic, does anyone know a good source of spätzle in the UK?

Lidl sometimes have them as part of 'Alpine Week'. Otherwise, they're simple enough to make yourself.

The Knorr ones out of a packet are good.
