Having tied myself in knots over various new car options, I think we have finally all agreed on a V-class. I test drove a 220d extra-long which ticked pretty much all our boxes, but the dealership didn't seem to know a huge amount about them.

Regarding the second row of seats - we would like them configured rear-facing, and we asked that the demo car was set up that way. However the position of the second row seatbacks meant the front row seats were unable to slide fully rearwards which made the driving position surprisingly cramped for such a large vehicle. My question to any owners is are the second row limited to one position or can they be slid aft to create more driver space at the expense of rear seating space? I know the third row slides but we couldn't get the second to move. I've even checked the owner's manual but it isn't very clear on this.

I'm hoping MB will have an answer soon but thought someone on here might know.

The new V is a really smart thing! The reason the dealerships dont know much about them is that they dont sell many to private customers... most V class customers are businesses that are replacing their existing V class and therefore know them inside out.

To be totally honest I'd need to play around with one again to confirm your question but i have seen the second row rear facing before. The floor runners can be used to fix the seats wherever as far as i know, it just takes a but of elbow grease to move them.

The 3rd row can be slid along the floor runners. Im pretty sure the 2nd row is exactly the same seats, its just a fiddle to reach the adjustment/removal handles when they are so close to the front seats.

Sorry i cant be more helpful, I wish i had a V class in front of me so i could work it out for you!

They look great.

I thought all the mid/rear seats were on tracks so you could fit them either way around in any position you wanted? I think that’s a key benefit of all these types of vehicles.

So did I, but it seems like the second row might have a fixed but reversable position.

I don't mind having to get out the spanners, as once set the second row would be staying in that position. It would only be the 3rd row which would need occasional adjustment depending on the luggage/stroller requirements of the day, which I know it can do.

There are definitely tracks, but unlike the VW, there seems to be a defined position for the second row when reversed. Perhaps due to airbag positioning or something. This is what I would like clarification on. The way the demo was set up it was pretty tight up front.
