Bejesus, i'd have thought that the bees would just sting, but it appears they just couldn't get close enough... I thought I saw one of the hornets wings knock a bee out of the sky too....

On an OT note, from the same video site...

If you decide to try and take the fecker out, here's a tip, they're basically armour plated swatting with a paper, book etc will just annoy it. You need something heavy preferably a wooden chopping board ( my weapon of preference ).

One chased my Mrs up the stairs the other day twas kin hilarious up she went "yee eee e eehh aaah deeeh" followed by a Black Hawk sized Hornet.

I was dispatched post haste with said wooden chopping board to do battle with the fiend.

Evil looking feckers! There is something primal in us that shrinks away from them. I get them at home from time to time, but there is worse.

Cockchafers. They are like bleedin zeppelins. Get one in the bedroom at 3am and wife evacuation is needed. Apparently the grubs live seven years underground and emerge like the V1s they are! Even the cat won't chase the smelly things. Truly disgusting when squished.

If I remember my discovery viewing correctly euro honey bees are a bit thick and not best organised where as jap bees will jump the scout on mass an kill it by generating heat - the bees can tolerate 1 or 2 degrees more temperature than that that kills the hornet.

is true.

I used to keep bees, never had hornet trouble, but there were some epic pitched battles between my bees and raiding wasps. Like a scene out of the battle of Britain or something!

My 6 year old daughter got stung by a hornet on the finger earlier this year. (She had been picking dandelion leaves for the rabbits if you wanna know - the f***ker was in the dandelion.) She screamed for about an hour, and her finger was tender for 3 days...

It's the only one I have seen this year, and also very few wasps around here.

Horrible bu66ers. Kill em. Kill em all....

I can heartily recommend a squash racket as the optimum weapon, particularly for those satisfying forehand volleys. Just mind the lamp-shades/wife/children on the follow through.....
