IoT Data SIM needed... or???
Discussion
I need to find a cheap data only SIM for a Smart Car monitoring dongle.
Data needs are very low, no more than 10mb per month.
Any recommendations?
The supplying company suggests Simbase which is an IoT SIM, they are based in the Netherlands.
I found another one, Soracom which looks ok to me ... €4.50 per year for 25mb a month, which is more than enough.
Any recommendations or an alternative approach?

Three used to do a PAYG with a free small amount of data on it. I used on in a tracker. Not sure if they still do it I think you just had to make or receive a call or sms one in a while to keep it active.
I'll take a look, thanks. Physically getting to it might be a challenge once it's installed though.Have a Google for SIM's used in electric gates - they might suit your purpose.
At my old house I had electric gates where the buzzer would ring my mobile phone - odd, but very useful as I could answer the gate intercom from anywhere in the world and open and close the gates from my mobile phone too. But it required a PAYG SIM with low rates.
Just a thought!

Depending on your data needs....
GiffGaff Pay as you go SIM is best for very low, but semi-frequent use. The credit doesn't expire, but you do need to use it once a month by either using some data, making a phone call etc. I use this in an alarm as a backup connection and it's been great. It barely uses any data at all, but connects frequently enough for the credit not to expire. Data is 10p/MB which is expensive, but for very low it doesn't matter. Put £10 on the card and it will last years.
The other cheapest option is something like Lebara, which is £5/m for 5GB on their cheapest contract. I'm pretty sure that's the cheapest contract free data out there for low-ish users. They do other options, like £10 for 20GB, etc, but the data does expire at end of the month, so better if you're going to be using 1GB per month or more.

There’s a 1 year SIM with 100MB every month for the entire 12 months for a one off price of £4.99:

I must be missing something, I can only see SIMs with at best (least) 1GB per month for £6 per month.GiffGaff Pay as you go SIM is best for very low, but semi-frequent use. It's just their basic PAYG sim. Just had a look, it's not really advertised, but you just order the free sim, without any contract, then need to put money on it once it arrives and you register it.

I think that's the right link. If not go to the bottom of the page and click order sim, then just keep asking for the free sim.

I'll give that a go. I already have a couple of GG sims and they work as you describe.Just had a look, it's not really advertised, but you just order the free sim, without any contract, then need to put money on it once it arrives and you register it.

Lebera have a 50% for the first 3 months as well; just got one for my daughter and it's really good so far (as is the UK customer service)vaud said:

I use a Lebara SIM in my Cayenne, works perfectly. For this dongle's SIM though, data use is tiny ... even 100mb per month is overkill, only need around 10mb per month.
