'18 C238 boot not locking/latching

Thought I'd ask here before taking the car down to the local Merc specialist.
C238 (E-Class coupe) boot not locking, it powers up and down via the fob or door switch however when the boot lid lowers it drops to the latch point then rises again maybe 6 inches. Nothing in the boot itself, no obvious signs of anything fouling or physically preventing the lid from closing, it just drops and then partially rises. No obvious signs of damage or latch misalignment though it's a new car to me so can't be sure on the latter, I've Googled the issue though was wondering if anyone here has experienced the same issue and what the resolution was.
As it approaches the latch point when manually trying to close the lid it does start to feel as if something soft is snagging it, there's some squidge in the last centimetre or two of travel and the lid appears to be fully lowered as the wing and lid mounted lights align, it just pops up again when released.
