Dakar coming back?

this formula looks like the 'new gt3'. Get ready for new variants / versions for the next 20 years.
I won't complain, it is my favorite version and would very happily own one. Price likely to be very high though.

It’s going to start with a 2, isn’t it?
I’d really hoped it was going to be slightly more attainable 2nd time around, like when they went from 911R to GT3 Touring.
agreed, thought they would make the Dakar set-up an option on cooking models. Alas they insist on the ltd edition thing. Shame. Getting into Steratto territory at these levels, arguably a more special car.

Since the basic Carrera and Carrera S aren't available in 4wd form, I was hoping the Dakar pack might become the 4wd option on those - or the Carrera S at least. I don't want the hybrid gubbins but I do want a Dakar suspension/wheel setup with rear seats and no cage, at a more mainstream price. Oh well.

That would be a dream.I quite like the Dakar but the idea of actually using one of these the way I use my Jeep Wrangler is too much for me. The Jeep can get scraped or dented and I don’t care. In winter if it hits snow and salt that’s fine.
I have other Porsches but at the price of even a more widely available car is not for me. I can imagine the costs of keeping it in good shape if it is used for its intended purpose to be very high, and simply having it to drive around the paved road defeats the purpose .

Agree.
The perfect car for UK roads, really. you'd not need to be terrified of pot holes or bad surface, in a 911.
The standard 992 is probably the best option for the UK’s increasingly decrepit roads - smaller 19/20 wheels, with more tyre absorption and wheel protection, more compliant suspension and slightly higher ground clearance. The perfect car for UK roads, really. you'd not need to be terrified of pot holes or bad surface, in a 911.
Then, the right tyres for its intended use.

That’s exactly what I was after - however, the move to the GTS powertrain may be necessary for the Dakar to become a 4 seater. I’ve read that the enlarged pump for the Dakar suspension (which is basically a beefed up version of the normal hydraulic nose lift system) interferes with the mounting bolts for the rear seats.
The GTS apparently has more rooms round the engine so it may allow more packaging options.

So next best hope is a 4-seater based on the 992.2 GTS which costs £200k list I guess. Not quite so easy to justify over a Carrera S for me.I’ve read that the enlarged pump for the Dakar suspension (which is basically a beefed up version of the normal hydraulic nose lift system) interferes with the mounting bolts for the rear seats.
