Nutcase delivery driver
Discussion
I have a problem with a nutcase delivery driver.
He’s fat, loud, foul mouthed, aggressive and smelly.
He started delivering to my workplace around 6 months ago. We’ve probably been a bit too friendly to him initially as he is in almost every week, and now he thinks we’re all mates.
Except we’re not - we hate him, and so does everyone else I’ve spoken to who comes into contact with him.
I’m sure he is bipolar. Some days he comes in and doesn’t say a word, drops off the package and leaves - great. Other days he comes in and he’s high as a kite - shouting and swearing. He refers to people as ‘shagger’ and calls another ‘big ugly
’. Other days he’s actually quite aggressive - this morning being a prime example. He bursts through the office door shouting at another member of staff calling them a f
king
for not opening the door to our loading bay that he was apparently knocking on, he was also pushing the staff member as he was shouting. He played it off as a joke, however it’s not on. Luckily up until now we haven’t had any clients or kids in the office when he’s come in but it’ll be very embarrassing when it does happen.
The obvious solution to this would be either to complain to the courier company or tell him he needs to tone it down - it’s not that simple however. A local business complained to his employer, a few days later he comes into their shop shouting in front of customers, he then dropped the package he was delivering and stamped on it. For the next month or so everything he delivered to them was damaged. The guy is a genuine nutcase. He’s shown me the bat he carries in the front of his van for ‘dicks who cut him up’. He’s also worked out where a few of us live - I genuinely wouldn’t put it past him to do something if rubbed up the wrong way.
How do we get rid of this guy?

I know the internet answer here is to punch him in the throat and tell him to do one, however in the real world it’s not that simple. None of us here are cage fighters - we’re regular people from decent backgrounds who have no interest in making our lives harder than it needs to be.

Obvious answer is stop using that particular courier. Don't buy from companies who use them.
I had similar with one of the food delivery companies. He rammed his huge bag down on the bonnet of my car, and when I asked him wtf he was doing, he gobbed on the drive as he f
ked off. Complaint lodged and never use them again.
We have tried to - however two important suppliers use him. We’re going to try and see if they’ll let us arrange our own courier to collect, but for now we’re stuck with fatty.I had similar with one of the food delivery companies. I suspect that he gets some serious mileage out of this nutcase persona that he fronts up with. Call him out on his behaviour in front of others, inform his employer and start taking note of all his appearances and behaviours so that you have a log of incidents to give police if he kicks up a fuss.
The courier company he works for can easily change the route he is on or remove you from it in the meantime.

I think that is partly true, whenever it’s been just myself and him in the office he’s actually quite pleasant - it’s when he has an audience he acts like a dick, especially if another courier is in. I really wanted to say something to him this morning but bit my tongue. The courier company he works for can easily change the route he is on or remove you from it in the meantime.
I’ve heard plenty of stories though. He was supposedly in a fight with another courier in their depot over something trivial, he was also seen threatening a driver with his bat not too long ago.
I was driving home a couple of months ago and saw him in his van. His driving was shocking, weaving his way down a dual carriageway through traffic then forced his way into a queue at the end. He’s like a white DMO deejay in a jumbo transit.

You're not stuck with him at all.
Simply tell your important suppliers that they are welcome to use the same courier, but if nutter delivery driver ever darkens your door again, you'll not be ordering anything else.
You don't need to expand on reasons why or explain yourself - they'll get the idea.
Oh and invest in door access control. If he can just walk into your office, that's not a good look no matter how small your business is.

This is the answer, or invest in a van and go collect your supplies.

Firstly, he's unlikely bipolar. The behaviour you've described is that of a bellend. I have Bipolar as do many other folks, and we certainly don't behave like that....well, not all of us anyway
Contact the depot manager and have a word with him about the issue. Failing that, speak to your rep with the courier firm and explain you're thinkingabout switching to a different courier because of the guy's behaviour. We had a similar issue a few years ago and thanks to the size of our account, the guy was taken off our route.
Edit: re the baseball bat, drop Crinestoppers an anonymous message with his van registration and his description stating he's unhinged, carries a baseball bat and his behaviour is of concern.

Not so intelligent, and might be bipolar.
