Hi all.

I’m exploring the idea of moving from my V12VM to a GT8. Still a WIP as an idea!

But wondered does anyone have a list of the GT8 specific options and costs from the day? Helps compare available cars in terms of price and desirability now for me.

Any info welcomed. Thank you

I have a GT8 from new and at the min, I think it is a great purchase as only 150 made. I would go for manual and try and find a car which is not the Aston green.
I think the base price was around £165k plus extras at the time like centre locks wheels and so on, also I would go for the seats which you are able to fully adjust as well as this makes for a better driving position but not many have this option I don't think.
I love mine not the faster car I own but I love it.

Hi, yes I have a full factory price list. As I almost bought one at the time before deciding to go with a V12VSM instead.

Drop me a PM and I will email it over to you.

Cheers

How is the gt8 with speed bumps and slight inclines to entrances etc?

Is the seven speed manual gearbox in v12s the same twin clutch gearbox as sport shift he’s fix but with a manual lever? Porsche seven speed manual is same gearbox as PDK but with a manual attachment. I think a six speed box could be better but I haven’t compared both yet.

Given current values not a bad time perhaps to be looking.
As Jason has said only 150 made of which UK accounts for circa 80.
Manual of these are about 60 ish.
List was indeed £165k for the manual and the average spend on options was probably around £40 - £45k at least but being Aston it was fairly easy to go even sillier.
Mine has the only back and forwards seat adjustment as that’s what I wanted having had the same in my GT3 and they are superbly comfortable so no regrets.
Titanium exhaust was often specced but appears to sound relatively similar to the ss.
Both sound amazing.
I specced it with Ti as heard it at the original launch and was sold.
With the removable front extended splitters you do have to be careful exiting some petrol stations and the like but more about approach angle of the car.
Same with speed bumps but some can be very painful to the ears.
Pure theatre driving experience.

Thanks for the feedback, and appreciate the insights. It has to be a manual for me. My plan is consolidating a couple of cars into one. Theatre and fun and central theme for me too. May not happen, need to find right car but on a mission now !

The intercooler.com has just published an article on the 8/12 which is worth a read to perhaps whet your appetite some more.
Think 3 on AT as we speak .
Prices range widely with anything less than 1000 miles carrying a premium although the most expensive one does seem relatively “ high “.
The one at Reading seems a good compromise BUT you’d have to like the colour.

Yes it is the same gearbox.

The GT8 had the 6 speed which is the same as in the V8V and V12V (non "S" original version).

Just to bump this GT8 thread again - are any of you GT 8 owners aware of any specific problems or issues with your cars during your ownership ? The reason i ask, is that I am considering getting one, and would appreciate an owners perspective.

I think they look and sound superb, and due to the low numbers available, think its a good buy to get a car that will maintain much better value than perhaps a new Aston Martin vantage. ( new shape model).

Appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Shmee has brought his GT8 to America for car week. Lots of nice GT8 video. GT8 one of Aston Martin’s best, such a beautiful car.

I’ve owned mine from new for just over 8 years.
Mileage is very low as have other cars but some owners ( Tim in particular ) have racked up decent mileages in theirs.
Mine over that time has needed a couple of new condensers for the aircon ( not uncommon ) and new tyre sensors as the batteries had reached their end of life time - again not uncommon for any Astons.
I seem to recall the exhaust valves got sticky one year and again not uncommon.
Serviced annually and even at main dealers under Astons fixed price regular schedule for a 4.7 Gaydon vantage.
Apart from the very minor things above that’s it.
Even the fuel filler flap has been good as gold.
Overall build quality was superb and remains so.
Occasionally other owners have reported back about battery issues ( lithium ) but that’s usually been more about a battery reset rather than failure.
Mine ( and many others ) lives on the Optimate conditioner supplied with the car originally but that’s no different to other cars which also have battery conditioners and not used each week or so.
Spec varies tremendously per car and from memory the average spent on options was circa £40k plus but you could go really wild with some of the prices.
Manual suits the car better than the sport shift and seems to be reflected in higher prices.
Obviously I’m biased but I think the 8 is very underrated / not necessarily understood but the driving experience is pure theatre.
Aston specials tend to depreciate more slowly than others but equally appreciate not before probably a least a decade so your timing could be good.
It’s the one car that I will never sell.
I took it out on Sunday and after 100 miles fun thought what a car.

alscar, every time you post a picture of your GT8 I always smile. It really does look quite sublime. I know it’s sometimes a bit of a cliché, but it really is a forever car. It’s quite rare to see a manual car for sale nowadays, so I guess you’re not alone in your sentiment.

Thanks Minglar.
I must confess that was one reason for buying a new Mustang Dark Horse to use as a daily -ish.
V8 / no turbo / manual.
Very frustrating experience dealing with Ford but the build quality and even finish is really quite good.
It makes a very decent noise albeit not as angry as a Ti equipped GT8.

Thanks for that detailed response Alscar. Those items that got sticky, failed or needed replacement - any of those high value items ? I'm not familiar with what most of that lot is, or does !

You car looks very special and I prefer the more plain colour schemes as opposed to the stripes and contrast colours.

Yes, all my cars have used the battery conditioners and they have always been in good order, battery wise.

I managed to get through the first one in the series. I drove down that same Tuna Canyon road (sadly only in a 911) quite recently and stayed at the Beverly Wiltshire so it brought back memories of that area. What a fun bit of road.

I think he’s got so used to turbo cars that he has forgotten that you need to rev a naturally aspirated car to get performance from it which also happens to be the fun part. I also don’t really understand why he uses the handbrake all the time. Possibly doesn’t realise that it has hill hold which works really well. Such a lovely car the GT8. I don’t think he really understands it though.
