It may become a classic but it won’t be for a while yet.
I’ll doubt very much if they become valuable in the same way other landys have become.
Disco 1s are being dragged up because you can’t buy a cheap Range Rover classic now.
The Disco 2 prices can be dirt cheap for a knackered one to very strong money for a low mileage example.

I could see them almost matching early D1s in time, mostly because there are so few remaining.
Anyone with an interest in the brand has to acknowledge that, along with the D1, the Freelander was the car that saved Land Rover. It also had a lot of Land Rover firsts that are found on every LR such as monocoque construction, independent suspension and tech such as HDC.
Finding a nice early Freelander is much tougher than you'd think, I think that most ended up scrapped during the scrappage scheme and the combination of K Series and IRD failures have seen to the rest over the years.
If I had the space and the time, I would definitely consider an early R-BAC or R-BDU Freelander as a runaround.

I'm going to breath new life into this thread, probably only to see it die again!
After being away from the green oval after selling my Freelander 2 with the aim of also selling my wife's Mazda Bongo to replace it with a bigger van/camper(spoiler the Bongo didn't leave, I did!) but my budget know will only reach Freelander 1 levels.
My perfect spec is a late pre facelift or face lifted 3 door TD4 Auto but they seem to be fairly thin on the ground

What do we make of the 1.8 petrol ones? I've been offered a 2004 3 door for the cost of a round of lattes, it is ulez compliant so I can trundle round Glasgow in it, it's had a ton of welding done and despite the same advisory in 2023, 5k miles later the last mot only had

For heaven sake check the coolant levels when you buy and daily if you get it ( see h gasket)
Fond memories of these, my Dad had an early one as a company car in 1998. I can still remember him bringing it home, for a 7 year old me the excitement was too much to bear!

The coolest car my Dad ever had in my books as it was so different at the time - you could argue these led to the SUV boom we’ve seen since, albeit these could properly off road…

A 30,000 mile Camel Trophy reg R509 RDY has recently sold at NEC Classic Car Show auction for £55,000 inc fees. Guide price was £8K to £10K.
