Delighted to say this is now in my garage!!

Known about this little peach for a good number of years. It was bought by the original owner on Valentine’s Day 1987, he was already elderly but still had it serviced every year in Toyota. 25 service entries and 4 cambelts. I believe he gave up driving around 2010. Condition is perfect, not one job to item to attend to. Underside is as good as up top, completely factory fresh! Paperwork is amazing, right down to 3 handwritten notes left on the window over the years offering to buy.

I tried to buy it unsuccessfully a few years back, when my offer was accepted last week I was faced with the problem of getting it home. It has been off the road for a good number of years. I came up with the rather idiotic idea of booking a mot, then driving it straight there from the vendors house. This plan brought a number of issues. But with some bravado I got the mot booked for 3pm today, and arrived at the house about 3 hours before that with a 20 litre can of 97 octane. A new battery was put in, tyres pumped and the fuel added and it fired straight up!

I had a 90 minute trip to mot, the seller lived 200 yards from the motorway so the cars first trip was straight down the slip road! I was convinced I’d make it 300 yards and end up on the hard shoulder but the little car drove absolutely perfectly the whole way. Engine happily humming and an ac/dc cassette playing. Original tape player, windows, heater, absolutely everything working as new!!

Arrived at mot and it passed with no advisories, was then able to tax it and drive it home. No specific plans. With 17k miles it’s useable rather than 1000 miles which isn’t usable. I’ll now get a full service and another cambelt done and use it for some spring cars and coffee events! Plus I’ve a good friend getting married in April and been asked to drive so it’s the perfect car for it.

I’ve always loved the mk1, I forced my gran to buy me an issue of What Car in the 80’s as a 6 year old because it had one on the front. My first car magazine and I still have it!

Well done in getting such a great car. A lovely back history just adds to the win. Quite a unique car and design of its time. There can’t be many around in this condition now, just goes to prove the long game can win in the end!

Great stuff! A neighbour had a mk1 MR2 (also white) in the early nineties, and I thought it was the coolest car ever.

Will you be bringing it to the MR2 day at Hatton in June?

Has this car had a topic in RC before? I seem to remember another very low mileage MR2 like this having a post not so many years back.

My bad...it was a white car though

A few years ago I found a 1k mile one. Also local and still in the possession of the original owner. I enjoyed the process of finding it, and getting it back on the road. But ultimately it was unusable due to the miles.

I’d love to but it’s unlikely with boats/work/family duties. There an Irish version just over the border in letterkenny on June 1st also which I probably will go to.

Typical how they manage to have them on the same day.

Damn. Love the two tone paintwork and the leather interior. Very smart.

How in god's name do you keep finding such great examples of these? Top notch stalking!

I definitely miss my Mk1 (an 87 with sunroof in red) and pop-up headlamps generally...

Enjoy.

Go walking around your local area. There is a 924S on a 84 plate near me with a 924S private plate too. 50k miles. Hasn't had an M.O.T since 2009. Every time I go walk my dog I always say I am going to knock on the door but I always chicken out besides I got too many projects on the go!

Bit of déjà vu, what a fantastic purchase, especially with the back-story of your 1st motoring magazine.

Oddly I think these have aged better than later interactions, such simple but sharp lines, lend a youthfulness to them.

Like your last one, this looks like a fantastic. With a few miles under its belt you’ll enjoy using this one. driving

I think that's my favourite colour combination. Well done. Mine's lovely, but that's on another level.

The Mk1 MR2 is the one car I regret not owning.

My first car was a Fiat X1/9 and the MR2 was like Toyota had done updated version of it, only without the Italian rust and reliability!

To be fair, they have Japanese rust instead, and it's just as rampant if you don't keep an eye on it. Very reliable though.
