I've finally got her. My second hand S2 in laser blue. Just the basic 120 with a stainless exhaust. I got her from Bell and Coleville, I put the deposit down two weeks ago. I was expecting to get delivery on friday but when the car was on the ramp they noticed the "coolant" pipes were dodgy and decided to replace the whole lot. Hence it ran over on preparation time and they missed out on a couple of things.

Because they didn't get the car ready when they said they would I was given the 111s demonstrator for the weekend (very nice of them I thought). I have to say I think i prefer the basic model. Primarily because the demo has a non standard seats which I find particularly anoying and uncomfortable.

The only really weired thing is the gear lever is not centering to the 3/4th point. I don't remember noticing it on the test drive. I'll mention it to them tomorrow.

The other problem was that comming off the M3 this morning onto the M25, a berk in a pick up really took offence and tailgated me. He decided to storm past me to which I stupidly made some hand gestures to one the basis of the silly tailgating. The driver of the pick up decides to ram me off the road by driving into the side of me (only just missing) and performing a hard braking manuver. I had to stomp on the brakes very hard and narrowly missed driving into his tow bar. Absolutely and utterly scared the s**t out of me. Please tell me this is not normal for elise's as if this becomes a common occurance I don't know what I'll do.]

Anyway I look forward to actually enjoying the driving experience, but its been a bit of a mixed day.

I'm afraid there are a lot of very jealous idiots out there who would like to take a swipe at proper sports cars , so be careful of road nuts !

Sadly this can happen in any car. However, you will soon find that the positive responses "cool car" from every 12 yr old you drive past, outweigh the tw*ts 20 to 1. Welcome to the lotus community and enjoy the car!

Dave,

I agree with Andy, not a normal occurance by any means.

I would however suggest not antagonising tts like the guy in the pick-up. "Elise V Pickup" I know who my money is on when it comes to physical contact.

Just sit tight, safe in the knowledge that you now own one of the most fabulous, respected driving machines available.

You will come across the occational jealous dickhead, most of whom I just feel sorry for.

Have fun

VERY rarely do you get any sort of bad feelings from people. As suggested above though - never antagonise!

You are driving a very obvious car. People could easily remember your car or work out where you live. The 'other guy' was a white van!

My dad taught me this years ago on the day I passed my test and it's stuck with me everytime someone does something stupid;

my dad said:
Do you want this person to become a part of the rest of your life

Anyhow...you've got a great car there. Let the prat not spoil it for you; you will love your car and enjoy it for a long time to come.

Bravo

Morning all,

This is completely un-acceptable behaviour if you have his Registration Number report him to the Police, there are far to many Idiot's on the road willing to use there car's as a way of demonstrating force, they wouldn't/couldn't do it any other way.

I speak with personal experience, first thing I do if someone try's any nonsense is to slow right down to avoid them and then If I really have to stop.

I don't understand this fixation at the moment of trying to use force as a way of getting there own personal driving opinion across, if it's a fight they want then why not do Boxing or some sort of martial art.

Something similar happened to me when I first took the Elise out... Driver of an HGV really (and I mean really) didn't want me to pull past him on the outside lane of a roundabout on the A11. The roundabout uses both lanes for straight on traffic so I wasn't in the wrong. In addition, there was plenty of room between the HGV and the next car ahead. There was no reason for him to try and stop me other than he's a tw*t!

It's a simple fact of life that a good percentage of people are pretty much stupid so, in their head, cutting you up or stopping you getting past and generally trying to smash up your Elise makes perfect sense!

Hi, I've had a similar situation. Man in V6 Omega tried to undertake a Punto that was in the outside lane of a dual carridgeway. He'd been tail gateing them for a minute or two. When he moved into the left lane to make his pass, the Punto he was trying to overtake moved over a moment later too. The Omega waited a moment seeing me (S2 Elise 111S) in his mirror so i nailed it past the two of them completely legally and then eased back off the throttle.

However, imagine my surprise when the Omega pulled out behind me flashing his headlights, then undertook me (in front of the Punto) and then braked very hard to a standstill in the outside lane of the dual carridgeway! Me narrowly avoiding driving into the back of him! Traffic was light luckily but i had to wait for a half dozen swerveing cars behind me to get past us in the inside lane! Meanwhile, he's out of his car shouting at me that he has a V6 and therefore should have been first past the Punto. It was about now I realised it was to be one of the most surreal moments of my life I think.

Just as i'm about to reverse back a couple of feet as i can't get past the Omega's bumper 12 inches away He say he's a "Special" with Aldershot police station! To say i was lost for words is an understatement!

This particular station was 10 mins from our location. So I drove straight there with his registration number and a description of the events to be told "It's his word against yours, there's nothing you can do without an independant witness".

But, having said all that. I get or have had, very few bad experiences in my Elise. I'm on my second one now and can't recommend them enough. Has to be the best "drivers" car on the road, especially for the money. Happy motoring one and all.

Some interesting comments/stories and thanks for the insights.

It just keeps getting better. Everyone seems to want to tailgate me and cut me up. I suppose it might be a lot to do with the height of the car. It happened again tonight someone overtook me on a roundabout then cut me up!! I thought the left hand lane meant straight on! I even slowed down to let him go.

I thought of reporting the earlier event on the M25 to the police but I figured it would not be taken too seriously. Its one of the most aggressive manuvers I've ever seen.

My main learning is not to rise to anything at all and to keep my calm.

I've done my defensive driving courses and I'm due another IAM jobbie soon. Seems that with the elise you just have to be more aware (and keep cool).

I had a great one today.

In front of me a new mini Cooper and an audi S4. I know the road and it is nice and twisty with only a few places to overtake. The audi is doing 40-50 so when a straight of about 3/4 of a mile comes up and is open and go round. I am getting ready to pull in, look left and the Audi is accelerating up the inside to stop me pulling in. At the end of the straight there is a hard 90 degree right.

I dropped a gear brought it up on the cam accelerated as hard as poss with the corner coming up VERY fast. I pulled in with less than 100 yds to the bend and slammed on the anchors, selected a gear and belted round the bend.

This seemed to stop his enthuisastic driving. By the 3 rd bend he was nothing but a memory.

There are some real tw@ts out there and you can never tell. The best thing is they cant keep up.
