Hi all. In the 1980s I plagued my parents for a calculator watch. No idea why really as I must’ve been under 10 so I’m not sure what I so desperately wanted to calculate hehe

Anyway they got me one for Christmas and I recently found it. I put a new battery in it this morning and to my surprise it works, albeit with one ‘strip’ of LCD not showing so a 7 is just a horizontal line at the top.

I’d always assumed it was a Casio but having had a look online I don’t think it is.

I’ve done a Google Lens reverse and the only result that comes up is a Braddon which I’ve never heard of and I can’t find much about.

Anyone have any ideas? I was initially looking at how to adjust the strap size so I can wear it down the pub tonight.

Is there anything on the back?

The complete lack of branding on the front suggests to me that it’s quite likely Chinese using a knockoff seiko or Casio module.

No nothing at all. I’ve seen similar online but they all have a maker’s name where mine has “Quartz”.

I’m not fussed about value or anything I’d just like to know how to adjust the date. When I tried earlier it got stuck and I had to take the battery out to reset it.

She’s had multiple compliments down the pub tonight hehe

Probably a bit too early to be a Chinese knock off. A Taiwan ROC or Hong Kong knock off is more likely...

Is there a recessed button you can press with a biro to get it into settings mode or do pressing all the outer case buttons simultaneously do anything?

Nice retro bit of fun for your wrist you've got there.

Google Lens threw up plenty of near-identical models for me, but none with the exactly identical graphics. I suspect it's a Peckham market special.

Zeon, Braddon, Montana, Delphi and Kessel? Never 'eard of 'em.

I saw dad last night and asked him if he could remember where he got it. Unsurprisingly he couldn’t, but possibly a catalogue like Littlewoods he thought.

Doubt it would have been a cheapo market job as there aren’t really any round where I grew up in rural Suffolk!

As above, I can find some with the same colour scheme but most have a makers name where mine says Quartz.

I tried holding all the buttons down to see if they did anything but no luck. It keeps time (although you can’t tell if it’s 5 or 9, 6 or 8 and a 1 o’clock is the no show hour hehe) but it’s fun. Did a few sums for people down the pub cool

Back in the 80's there seemed to be literally dozens of 'random brand' LCD watches for sale in every local jeweller in town (at least in the mid-size market town I grew up in). Presumably HK or Taiwan sourced in those days. I used to favour the analogue LCD faces, there used to be loads of them, but they never come up on eBay or elsewhere.

Whatever, they are all incredibly cool, so treasure yours!

By analogue LCD I mean this sort of thing

If anyone knows where such an exquisite piece could be acquired these days, I'd be very keen to discuss biggrin
