Anyone know who the hell she is?
All of a sudden she's appearing all the time in shorts on my YT feed (or is it Instagram? Or both, I forget) and I can't really work out a) why she's appearing, and so often or b) who she really is. I read some comments on the shorts and a lot of them go on about being a 'TikTok DJ' who basically presses a button and dances around looking attractive. As a guy who used to DJ vinyl early 2000s of course I understand and agree with the debate around DJs who basically just press play.
But anyone heard of her? Is she actually a talented DJ or are the comments right and she's simply there because of TikTok etc?

Sadly, due to social media and (old man shouts at clouds mode) the attention span of the current generation, you don't need to actually be talented to become famous, and the DJ / music scene is no exception.

Does this mean this person is a "working DJ".....in that she plays gigs all over the world and if I wanted to I could go and see her "play"? Plays an annoying but high energy techno/euro-dance style. Can see why the kids like it. Can also see why it would be really annoying after a while and best left for 18 year olds.

I must admit I'd probably enjoy the music, for a bit at least. But that crowd/atmosphere is very odd.

There seems to be a bunch of (predominantly female but I’m not saying that for any other reason than what is apparent) recent DJs that genuinely are talentless. Koven is one, from what I can work out there’s a duo and the other half does the clever stuff whilst a front woman just dances and pretends to DJ.
If you watch an established DJ work a mixer these newer ones don’t even do a good job of lip syncing. Having said that people seem to lap it up.

More about when people started 'watching the DJ' rather than just dance amongst themselves with the DJ being up in a dark booth rather than on a stage.

Last set I watched was a “live” broadcast of Fatboy Slim dancing along to some music he may have mixed in the past, barefoot and in his sixties.
I was embarrassed for him to be honest. I’m not convinced he even pressed play on the computer reading the memory stick. He couldn’t half twiddle those knobs in time to the music though.

What's the definition of a boiler room set? Seen a few pop up on YT, never really thought to ask what exactly they are.
Boiler Room are a music broadcaster, started off doing mixtapes and livestreams about 15 years ago, now mainly Youtube videos. They're all set in small rooms, with no separation between the DJ and crowd, it's supposed to be like a lounge or bedroom DJ set, like just going round your friends place and setting up some decks. Crowds are maybe a few hundred people, with the camera mainly pointing directly at the DJ. All very intimate and sweaty.

Disagree re fatboy slim. Yes he pranced around a bit but he worked the music very well, and, for his era was actually pretty innovative.
Danny Rampling, Gilles Peterson and Purple Disco Machine are more about the tracks being played, I’ve witnessed some pretty shocking mixing from all three but are renowned for their ability to curate a set and keep a crowd dancing.
Interesting, I've never seen any ads/popups for Novah but get them for Book Club Radio (some of which are quite listenable IMO). Seems a very similar setup to the boiler room stuff

Any clip that has the dj doing more dancing than the crowd is immediately a bit sus. The standard dj dance routine for likes seems to be push one button, fist pump fist pump towards crowd, turn round make love heart sign at camera, then do a little dance for your adoring fans phones.
As was said above way to much emphasis seems to go on the on stage performance, but I guess for the instant attention grab it has to be done. Some of thebest nights have been where you can hardly see the dj and the dance floor would be all doing there own thing rather than lined up facing the front like a concert.
