Hi guys and girls,

Does anyone have any good recommendations of bodyshops in the West Midlands, mainly around Coventry that carry out fully resprays.

I have an classic Audi, bare shell I'd like painting but finding it hard to find anywhere that one, does full resprays, most just want to do accident repair stuff, two, that won't take 6+months to do, again finding shops are saying they only willing to do it in and around their accident stuff and three, aren't charging crazy amounts for what is a pretty straight car...getting 5 figure quotes and I'm thinking that's crazy. Am I really out of touch??? I'm sure a top end paint job not that long ago was about 5k??

Many thanks in advance.

In my experience, the cost of painting cars has gone up hugely. Looking through the paper work of my 90s classic it had a repaint in 2010, glass out, doors off etc, new rubbers installed and the cost was £2000 + VAT. The car still looks excellent today.

I had another 90s classic painted in 2019 for 5500 cash, similar deal to the above but I didn't feel it was as good a job.

Today I think you're looking at approx £10-12k for a glass out job from what I am seeing. To be honest it puts me off considering this work on the types of cars I own as it just isn't worth it.

Not sure how the prices have gone from £2000 in 2010 to £12,000 for the same job in 2025 but we are where we are.

Anything under 10K is either a fantastic deal or more likely to end in tears. I would be budgeting 16K these days.

As you already know stay away from accident repair shops, its not that they cant do it but it will sit in a corner and be a fill in job for them and could easily take a couple of years. Even a bodyshop specialising in classics would take about 6 months as its very labour intensive and they are usually working on more than 1 car at a time.

Also beware of businesses wanting lots of upfront money before they do anything.
