I was looking into a trackday at Abbeville circuit in France, however it is mandatory to have track liability insurance. Never heard of it, what is it, where can I get it from?

Surely, it is just track day insurance?

Maybe our cousins across the channel insist on it.

Maybe get in touch with the organisers as THEY will definitely know if it is otherwise.

Is it 1st party or 3rd part liability they're asking for (i.e. just your car, or others' cars and circuit furniture)?

I know MORIS offer personal injury and armco damage as add-ons, but not seen any 3rd party liability cover from them.

Track liability insurance (sometimes called circuit liability insurance or track day liability insurance) covers third-party damage that you might cause while on track - for example, if you were to damage barriers, other cars, or circuit facilities.

For driving in France, this is particularly important because many French circuits require specific proof of this coverage. This is different from the UK where it's often optional (though recommended).

It's my understanding that UK track day insurers don't cover third party liabilities at all under any policy, so I'm not sure where you are getting it's optional or recommended in the UK.

As I said below, MORIS offer an add-on for circuit damage (up to £3000 limit).

Circuits covered vary in price though, as some are deemed more dangerous than others.

Interesting, but very much a corner case with a low limit, versus damage to another vehicle or driver.

Yes, 3rd party as in circuit, not 3rd party as in other driver. I don't think I've seen full 3rd party cover for track days for over a decade (maybe more), and most of those were specific owner's club policies on club track days.

But the OP hasn't clarified what specific liability insurance they're asking for either, so we're all shooting in the dark wink

I know some TDOs require everyone to have 1st party insurance and everyone has to claim off their own in the event of a pile up...but I've also seen driver's being taken to court when they've not taken out a partial value policy and have been hit and are looking to recover the rest of their loss.
