How did that work
Discussion
I've got a Denon AV Amp, which then outputs TV Pic to Samsung TV, both are reasonably new (TV is an S95D QD OLED from last year, the denon a X4800H from this year).
I'm used to the concept of everything plugging into the AV Amp, the AMP sending sounds out to the speakers, and TV only to the TV. All works just fine doing that. I've used the eARC port on both amp and TV just in case I ever use the "Smart TV" bit of the TV.
Anyway, all working away fine, and then something odd happened. I'd previously paired some bluetooth headphones with the TV back before I got the AV Amp. I turned them on and they connected to the TV. The Amp stopped sending sound to the speakers, and the TV sent the sounds to the headphones.
When the headphones were turned off... the AV Amp resumed sending sound to the speakers and the TV was silent.
Does anyone know how or what happened there? Seemed like the TV told the amp to "shut up and send me the sound" or something?

Pretty cool huh?
it's all down to reserved messages on the HDMI signal for controlling auxiliary equipment. Essentially the HDMI cables don't just transfer video information.
