Bit of an odd one this, but where can you buy/exchange five pound notes?

I have a regular small monthly bill cash bill of £55. Every damn month I seem to find myself driving around the city looking for cashpoints that dispense them. Sometimes a certain branch will be noted as having them, then the next month they've stopped. Likewise, sellers on FB Marketplace always seem to list things as £25/£75/£105 etc etc. I think they do it expecting to be haggled down. But as FB Marketplace is such a den of scumbaggery I like to buck the trend and be decent and not haggle, unless the item is seriously overpriced.

Could I just go into a random Post Office or bank branch with my debit card and say "£100 worth of fivers please"? My own branch is hard to get to and didn't seem to have any service counters last time I visited. Just machines and a 'coffee area'...

Sometimes, if I find a cashpoint that dispenses fivers I'll get a few out at the same time provided there's nobody behind me waiting. But that's quite the laborious process. I once managed about six before somebody appeared wanting to use the machine.

Try using a cashpoint in the evening at weekends, they are more likely to dispense £5 notes than during the day.

Your bank should have them if it still has a counter. As a shopkeeper its something I need to have so always have around £500 in fivers in the safe. Some of the other shopkeepers around 'buy' them from me as it's easier than trotting down the bank.

Most banks let you do cash orders for specific denominations, although for £100 worth it should be fine just done over the counter.

Without being a customer of the bank?

Thank you. Will ask next time I'm in. Twenty fivers per year would suffice.

There's an idea. Not heard 'cashback' since the 90's hehe Is it still a thing?

Post office cash machines tend to have fivers in them but you’ll be lucky to get any more than 2 in a transaction.

Pay your cash bill via bank transfer/revolut?
Or pay them £60 a month and £50 the next?

Not an option. And the second idea seems more faff to remember. Cheers though.

When the polymer fivers came out, I kept every one I got. I must have about £500 sitting on my shelf ( stopped getting bigger once CV started ).

I'd like to open the bidding at £1000 for these now rare and highly sought after items !

I still have a couple of blue five pound notes at home, compared to modern notes they're huge!

Go to a Co-Op.
Buy something cheap
Pay with £20 note
Ask the cashier "can you please give me a couple of fivers in change".
Sorted for 3 months.
