Could someone explain why are there so many fairly new Emiras for sale with so few miles? they look extremely good value for money.

There are rumours that a lot of customer rejected car were sold on mass by Lotus very cheaply. If there's no paperwork, no V5 document and just 1 key.. walk.

I'd caveat with "Buyer beware"
I am one of the buyers of the No V5 & only 1 key cars and whilst a number of people have been caught out, other(me included) have come away with a good car at a very reasonable price. I got mine in August, so the prices have dropped even more than I paid for mine and I thought I was getting a good deal then

If you are seriously interested, then main dealer purchases are the way to go, you pay a couple of grand more, but there is a degree of security with the process and I've not heard of any of those only having 1 key
Auto100 is the place people are point the finger at, regarding the 1 key & no V5. I bought mine from them. The one key situation took about 2 months to resolve and that was by them paying for me to source a 2nd key from a local Lotus dealership. The V5 took about 6 weeks to turn up, with a lot of hassling of them and me being a downright nuisance. If you're happy to go this route, then make sure you get the car looked at, as other have had issues

That's a very good question - and it kind of depends who you ask as for the answer. The generally accepted version is that lots of people cancelled their orders for these cars when Lotus put the price up mid-way through the buying process but the cars were already being made so Lotus finished making them and then found themselves with way more stock that they could move. There's also apparently quite a few people who bought as an investment hoping to make a quick turnaround and sell the car for a profit. With very early cars some people managed this - but soon there were way more cars on the market than buyers. Also - bear in mind the sports car market generally is suffering.

Add to that Lotus - and this is rumour more than anything - wanted to get lots of these pre-ordered now cancelled cars off their books to make the end of year sales figures look good - so they sold a bunch of them to Auto100 (who currently seems to have 20+ Emira's for sale). Plus there is some talk that some of those sold to Auto100 were 'rejects' - though that's debatable.

Either way.......

Get one while stocks last!

I did - and so have many many others - they're amazing cars. I paid £62k for an 14 with a few hundred miles on the clock - not from Auto100 I might add...

Just be careful - make sure the paint work has no bubbles and it has two keys....

Interestingly it shows the price point at which they are spine tinglingly fabulous!

That's pretty crap to put up the prices for people who have already put an order in.

I put a deposit down as soon as Ford announced the price of the V8 Mustang.

It was a year and 4 price increases and a higher first year tax before my car was delivered from the US.

My dealer stuck to the price that I had placed a deposit on.

£32,999.......a lot of car for the money back in 2016.

Like others said buyer beware do your research if you really want one...I got an Auto 100 one its not got anything wrong with it, looks like an exotic supercar (for sportscar money).

Auto 100 have sold 50 + such Emira.....only heard of 2 horror stories 1 really bad but they got forced to rectify it (clutch failed early on or something like that). They can only be SOR from Lotus (few might be ex Lotus employee cars as they had a scheme for a while where they could get them cheap on a company scheme) no other logical explanation for them all.....you pays your money you make your choices....main dealer is best for aftersales support 2 keyfobs & V5C....they are going to cost you a good £7-10K extra on the Auto 100 stock & or few others have low miles examples.

If you want to go the Auto 100 route:
1: Good strong LED torch is required when viewing the car.
2: They do not do test drives make sure it has the chassis you want (test drive elsewhere!).
3: Make 2 keyfobs a condition of sale (I got told 2 keyfobs...when I arrived to drive the Emira home on the agreed handover day low & behold only 1 keyfob & no V5C - which I am still waiting to arrive almost 6 weeks later FFS!).

So easy to get seduced by these cars they look incredible like exotic supercars costing deep 6 figures...engines are great on both variants. Gearbox is down to your personal preference...i4 is 8 speed DCT only. Above all else look closely for bubbling paintwork on the panels (hence the good LED torch required!) But these can appear after also its a known issue....

All warranty work is with Lotus Cars so expect to go to them via a main dealer for anything must be fixed under the T&Cs on the warranty. Auto 100 is just a warehouse full of exotic cars but they can offer finance.

Make sure you can get insurance also. I have heard of several people get turned down for not being old enough & or living in the wrong area quotes can be astronomical making it impossible to own one at this time.

Thanks for this. I've been curious about these cars since they've started dropping in price. I stuck it in my confused account and it's coming out at triple the price of my Porsche, and they're similar value and performance. Any ideas why the insurance is so high on these?

With a £600 VED and an average 20MPG (going from the Shmee video where he said it was worse than his XF90) these are significant running costs. Makes my GTS seem 'cheap'!

With reference to insurance everyone is different, Emira comes out slightly cheaper than a 992 Gts for me. Just depends on your personal circumstances I guess.

I pay £400 fully comp for my Alpine, which amazed me. Only £100 more than my Abarth.

Parked on street in SW London. No claims etc, 62 years old.

The Lotus is similar performance and a bit more expensive to buy so why would the insurance be so much more.

Of course, insurance companies, they never make sense biggrin

I went from a £12k Ducati with 110bhp to a £8.5k Bonneville with 60bhp, and my insurance went up. Daft.

Exotic expensive to replace parts, ultra fast ingear acceleration, massive performance. My initial quotes were averaging at £4.6K LOL I only got it down when I got a multicar policy with Admiral they seem to want to take the Emira on right now. I have heard of several prospective buyers being unable to get any insurance for less than a silly amount of money so they cancelled the deal (did them a big favour as these were all with Auto 100.........!).

In general terms I think if you have any points on your licence, not held it for long, live in the wrong area & or are not old enough its going to cost you an arm & a leg guvnor!

£4.6k!?

I’m paying £1000 on a 911GTS which is a chunk faster and I suspect costs more on parts. I’m 39 and live in Manchester which is grim for car crime.

I can’t imagine many are going to struggle on a lotus surely that price seems obscene

I got a quote on the red one at Hendy, 570 quid which I thought was decent enough. Old fart, 9 years NCB, zero points but postcode isn’t the most salubrious.

Very amusing yes LOL! Well I sold mine in under 2 months go figure why I did that .....

Most of the Auto 100 Emira have been ok though to be fair few have had serious cannot drive the thing issues.....when they do though its quite shocking...now the new base Emira have become £100K plus with options all these used nearly new £60ishK Emira are looking like good value to anyone who seriously wants one & understands the good & bad points around buying from a non main dealer......its not just Lotus Emira Auto 100 sell with nightmare stories....I know of 2 people who told me their nightmare stories on way more expensive Porsche GT3RS purchases from them in the £150K plus range so at least they are consistent in their customer service approach............! When I asked would they recommend or buy from them again their response was predictable..............!
