For my Epson R800 these guys, Printerinks, claim they are as good etc. as the real thing. Anyone know differently?

Don't know the R800, but for the various photo printing Epsons that I have had over the years the non-Epson cartidges have never been up to scratch. More blotting, different colour tones and so on. Epson chrome based ink is supposedly excellent at UV stability and the results will not fade. The cartridges are however ING expensive and a rip-off!

If you're only printing text in black then all the above may be irrelevant to you.

I assume from the actual question you mean pattern rather than fake. Fake would be selling pattern ones with a false Epson label :-p.

The answer is tricky as it will depend on what you want it for. If you want the best quality prints then the manufacturers one is usually the best. If you are less fussy then pattern ones are often good enough based on the fact that they save you shed loads of money. The only real way to know if it's good enough for you is to try it.

I usually use PC World's own brand "Epson" cartridges and have never had a problem..........

I use C&G apparently (or so my cartridge says!) and they aren't great for printing out photos. Black and white/small pictures are ok, but if I need quality then I have to print elsewhere.

Still, not complaining as I get all 4 cartridges for £22.99 whereas a full Espon set would cost me £60-£90!!!! Day light f**king robbery that, its the cost of the whole printer!

Anyone else noticed manufacurers are now not including cartridges with their new printers? And people wonder why...

I've tried a few compatible cartridges with my Epson Stylus Colour 760 and have always found them to be awful. You spend so much time and ink cleaning the heads to try and get them to work properly that the geniune ones are more cost effective anyway.

And the last lot I had literally stunk! Stick with the geniune ones IMO.

Forgot to sy, never, EVER use the ones that you refill yourself where you get 3 coloured ink bottles and 1 black and a syringe!

Tried it, first time it worked fine, so I tried a second time. Woke up the next morning to find a pool of blue ink surrounding my printer, the whole thing was covered in ink and the electrics were f**ked majorly. £150 printer down the drain. Literally.
