Big bins in the 80s / 90s
Discussion
I was watching an 80s/90s video the other day and it had someone running down an alley, and past a massive round commercial bin, it was very distinctive and it triggered some memories from when I was young, but I cannot find another picture of them, have search for various things but nothing.
Anyone remember them?
I think they were very common, really tall, I remember them being as tall or taller than a person, on wheels, and the bin trucks that collected them had a special mechanism to lift them up.

Odd that there don’t seem to be any pictures I guess people didn’t waste film on photographing bins
They were circular, bare aluminium l, I’d say 5 foot tall with 4 large castor wheels and from memory they had pegs on the side that the bin lorry mechanism would use to lift them. I recall black rubberised fibre lids too.

In an episode of The Professionals TV series there was a hostage situation where a nurse had a grenade held to her. When the hostage taker was shot it dropped down her top, Doyle ripped the top grabbed the hand grenade and threw it into one of those bins BANG and no one else was hurt.
