Stumbled across these. Knew about F pace 3.0 but never thought about Velar.
Anyone any experience?
I don’t want to go 5.0 but don’t fancy diesel. So are these a happy middle ground. Or maybe not torquey enough for this application?

Hi,

I’ve had mine a little over 2 months and absolutely love it.

Quite rare, but worth hunting down. Mine had an awful lot of options thrown at it from new, and IMHO think they look great.

Make a lovely noise when poked, but waft effortlessly most of the time.

Put a new set of Pirelli’s on it shortly after purchase, so far so good!

Has the insurance settled down on these? I was a member of the Velar Facebook group and literally every other post was about sky high insurance.

I’m currently half-heartedly looking for a replacement for my wife’s Freelander 2; I’ve done the F-Pace SVR before and the theft worries rule that out again plus she really doesn’t need that level of performance. These and the V6S F-pace have been on my radar although I wonder if the big diesel engine is best suited to these.

Edit: I’ve just answered my own question; £1600. That’s a tough sell when there are better, more expensive alternatives that are coming up as £500 for the insurance for a year and the SVR F-Pace being £1200. Shame.

I naively went straight ahead with a purchase without even thinking about insurance (I’d had a D300 Velar a few years back and wasn’t an issue), so when it came in at a little over £1K I must admit I was shocked having paid around £7-800 for the last few years in all manner of BMW’s.

On the D300, great engine and arguably does ‘suit’ the car better however, If like me Diesel just doesn’t do it for you and the sound and feel of supercharged 6 does, then it’s a cracking car to own/drive.
