We live in a small development built 2002 which has 2 double garages and a block of 3 all single doors. We own the end garage of the 3 furthest and hidden from any houses and have applied to push the side wall back by 2.5 meters with a double door.
The parking area well to the rear away from street view serves 5 houses and has 9 cars outside garages only 1 parked inside as they are too small. 3 of those park straddling the communal turning area in non allocated spaces.
2 neighbours have objected not to the size but just to it being a double door not 2 singles. Making 2 singles would need a slightly wider garage by 600mm but still a pain to get through the door way. The conservation officer has written stating they have no problem with the design as have 2 parish councillors.
Are we likely to have to go to 2x singles and a bigger garage ( enough space to do it). Or is singles or double door not something the planners get involved with?

Neighbour objections don’t carry much weight, as the conservation officer is fine with it I think you’ll be ok.

The planning officer will generally come to you (or your agent) to request you modify the scheme to 2 doors if approval is contingent upon that.

I suppose that the other alternative is to build the bigger garage with one door. You can never have too much garage space smile

Update, 5 object main reason they want 2 single doors. The existing doors 2.1 meters clear, the new additional single door would need to be 2.06 meters so unusable. The lynch mob is whipped up by one person who I questioned on her parking in the shared turning area. Planners asked if could show 2nd door but the maths say it all. It's like a primary school gang and their behaviour as adults was quite embarrassing according to others present.

Wow. My car is 2.024m wide according to the internet. One door it is.
