Which Micro EV?
Discussion
I am in the market for a 2.5-3 metre EV that will fit in a small parking space.
As a result, I am focusing my search on a 2 seater and have arrived at the following:
- Citroen AMI - inexpensive but shocking range and too attention seeking, and absolutely zero creature comforts
- XEV YOYO - around £16k new, great proportions (2.5m in length), some creature comforts, design a little wacky, 100 mile range seems excellent
- Microlino - pricey at £21k, close to no creature comforts, great proportions but argubly a little bit attention seeking, 100 mile range seems excellent
- Smart EQ FourTwo - these are trading at around £8-10k used, classified as a car rather than a quad so fit + finish + creature comforts are car grade; a little bigger at 2.7m and range probably closer to 65 miles
On paper - the Smart feels like a no brainer but given the price delta with some of the other options, am I missing something obvious here?
Separately, should i be considering anything else? I don't need 4 seats given what else I have in the family fleet.
Cheers All

The Smart is the no brainer!
So i thought. I guess what confuses me is the pricing strategy of Microlino + XEV. Even a new Smart EQ FourTwo is early 20s and relative to the Microlino, it offers more space, can do 83MPH vs 56MPH, has AC / Infotainment / crash protection, and has only marginally less range (!)
Interesting - barely used Microlinos are already trading at €12K on the continent.....

I think the Smart is the only real choice here as a comfortable (ish) car.
We have been looking for something small and easy to park but most are 4m+ EV's started with the big cars and are only now starting to get into the small/ city car category.
Although ironically, this is where I feel EVs really excel. We have been looking for something small and easy to park but most are 4m+ EV's started with the big cars and are only now starting to get into the small/ city car category.
I feel like this was a misstep by manufacturers, bar BMW with the i3.

City Transformer? Expected soon (I think)... https://citytransformer.com/
Sadly won’t be on our roads until late next year at the earliest.I bought a smart for two eq recently, and if you understand it’s downsides it’s perfect. We have a macan GTS and a boxster and the smart gets used for all the little journeys and it’s perfect for it
Downsides - range is tiny, but enough for me. Ride is rough. People drive like morons around it
Upsides - bloody nippy, great fun blasting to 30, and enough go after that. Turning circle is daft, like a dog chasing its tail. Peanuts to run. Just feel good factor
A lot of people hate them but I’ve never worried about what people think

Compromise a bit on length and get a Mii/Citigo/Up
Having owned a Mii which I rate very highly, after recently trying a Dacia Spring I would definitely go Dacia if I was compromising on length.Renault Twizy fits the space, also the successor Mobilize Duo is apparently going on sale sometime this year.
