BMW iX sat nav query
Discussion
I'm just about to lease an iX m60 and during the test drive I could figure out how to fix the zoom of the sat nat in the centre screen, but if I had it in the drivers screen it would still zoom in and out, does anyone know if this can be altered to fix the zoom of this as well please?

If it's the same as my X5, iDrive 8.5, you can stop the map zooming on the main screen but not on the driver display AFAIK.I have the main display map set to maximum info, which automatically turns off the zoom function. The other 2 settings show less details but auto zoom.

Sorry I can't help with your question, however I have just purchased a used (9 month old) iX m60 (collecting next week). Had a good lease option @ £1400 inc vat on a 1 plus 23 month payment which I didn't go for. I hope you don't mind me asking. Just interested in why you chose the M60 version instead of the other variants?

OK thanks. When you say max info is that raod names, POI's etc?I have the main display map set to maximum info, which automatically turns off the zoom function. The other 2 settings show less details but auto zoom.

I was going to go for the xDrive 50 but they've stopped taking orders and none of the builds were quite what I wanted. Plus I got what I believe is a stonking deal, best deal I got anyway as I got a whopping 20% off the price of the car. I hope you don't mind me asking. Just interested in why you chose the M60 version instead of the other variants?

I leave it at a medium zoom that shows surrounding roads etc and let the driver display zoom in and out and show the augmented reality turn instructions. I also have the nav instructions on the HUD.
@snerkler
Excellent. I think the M60 version is way overpriced on list but a fantastic bargain with the discounts offered. The price of used makes it a much better buy than the iX 50 as a used car as well. So many options included as standard over the 50 plus the M60 has the M sport extras and not just the extra HP....
Any way, you prob know this already. Happy motoring.

Not sure about road names, I don't zoom in that far! It has the traffic info for all roads shown at all times, instead of only the road on your route in the other views. It sow's POI's, charging points etc.

Thanks, I use the traffic flow info a lot so will definitely be using it in that format.I leave it at a medium zoom that shows surrounding roads etc and let the driver display zoom in and out and show the augmented reality turn instructions. I also have the nav instructions on the HUD.

I bought an M60 in Sept '23 new for just under £94k, which was nearly £30k discounted from list at the time.
It's on 32.5k miles now, 16 months later.
Couldn't be much happier with it. It's a very good family daily.
My rationale for getting the M60 over 50 was the fact that I wanted B&W, IAS / rear-wheel steer, Visibility/Lasers, 22kW charging and it comes with everything as standard (except sunroof and towbar).
Finding a 50 with the combination I wanted was impossible, I didn't want to factory order as discounts seemed to be on the in-stock cars and then of course when one came up at that price I went for it.
Very good all round car.

I did the same but it was an ex bmw hq 40, with 35k off its 83k list thanks to 6 months and 6k miles. It's on 32.5k miles now, 16 months later.

wonderful car and also has the B&W and massage seats which were the cherry on the cake.
Rides very well despite being on 22’s and standard suspension.

I'm not sure about rear wheel steering, although in the M60 it's far less 'odd' than the EQE I test drove, that was really weird and I didn't particularly like it. It's on 32.5k miles now, 16 months later.

I'm an audiophile and so the B&W is very much appreciated, that being said I don't think it compares to the Burmester in the EQE, that thing was insane, great sub bass but without causing distortion or vibration through the car. I did have a good play with the B&W and it has some cool features, although I'm not sure the 4D bass thing is for me

Air suspension was a must for me, and one of the xDrive50's had it. Comfort access is also a high priority, then things like the panoramic roof, massage and ventilated seats, B&W over HK, etc are all very welcome additions. I do wish the panoramic roof went completely clear though, but far from a biggie.
The fact that I got it £10k cheaper than the 50 I specced up was obviously very nice too.
One thing, when you build an xdrive50 M sport to get the massage and ventilated seats, as well as rear heating comfort system you have to buy the comfort plus pack which also has soft close doors, but the M60 I test drove certainly didn't seem like they were soft close door, they're very clunky. Are soft close doors an individual spec item on the M60?
I was also concerned about the push button door release as opposed to a handle if the battery depleted or shut down in an accident but I've seen online that there's a hidden door handle

That said I do also use Roon ARC via Carplay which combines my own NAS hosted library at home with Qobuz and Tidal and outputs to the head unit as a lossless CD quality bitstream.
I like the eSim functionality although annoyed that it's tied to the individual user profile not the car. This is obviously standard across BMW's range now and not a specific complaint about the iX.
I deliberately wanted a car without the sunroof, at the time I was buying it just seemed as though too many people had reported cracks/damage or even spontaneous breaking, with a circa £15k replacement bill and insurers refusing to cover it as glass. Perhaps paranoid but felt it might become a liability, even though it really lightens the car up internally.
I'd have liked the real leather as well, which is a zero cost option on the M60 versus about £3.5k on the others, but the deal I got was on a car with the synthentic material and as its used as a daily for two youngsters I'm not complaining, it's comfortable and seems like it will wear well.
The autonomous stuff is a lot better than I expected it to be, I thought it would be a complete gimmick but its effective on motorway driving especially in crap conditions, long distance specs zones and so on.
I believe all the M60's have the soft close doors as well as all the other 'comfort' options i.e. heated wheel and surfaces, rear heated seats.
RWS I personally find very effective. My wife was driving a Mini EV before some clown driving without a license/insurance destroyed it (luckily whilst I was in it alone) and my first impression was that the iX had a smaller turning circle than the Mini. The angle is much less than MB's system which may account for the difference you experienced, maybe BMW did that deliberately.
The only negatives for me are the AC system which seems very poor, dealer has replaced various parts but it still feels to me as though its very poor at getting any volume of air moving. I also fitted the Pirelli's after wearing out the factory Bridgestone's after about 18k miles and the range immediately dropped by about 15% so I'll go back when they are done.

Thanks for posting, interesting comments regarding the sunroof, didn’t know it was a problem. I don’t think I’ve read anyone being disappointed with their iX so that’s a good sign.
Collect mine tomorrow and have a 120 mile drive back home, looking forward to it. I already have it loaded in the app and dealership has fully charged as well. Whilst I could see its charging the app didn’t show at what rate or speed which is a shame as my Vauxhall Combo e van shows this info. Still, only a minor point and it’s got to be somewhat better than that I hope…lol.

Indeed I don't think it does show the rate it's charging at, and the time to complete is skewed somewhat by the fact that it slows down for the last 1-2%Thanks for posting, interesting comments regarding the sunroof, didn’t know it was a problem. The good thing about the M60 is that 22kW is standard so you have the full range of AC charging possibilities from 1.4-22kW depending on the charger and cable you're using.
It's handy for me personally as I went to the length of installing 3phase and 22kW at home, but I've also found in Europe these chargers are very common and suddenly being able to get half a battery's worth of charge over a long lunch or shopping trip is surprisingly useful.
I don't know if the sunroof really is a problem, I just saw a few too many forum pictures of them cracked/broken for comfort. I know plenty of people with glass-roofed Tesla's who haven't had the slightest problem with them, but then it could only still take one large stone to wreck it and certainly for the iX it's a very expensive dealer only job to replace.
I've probably over-thought it. I do like the effect it has on the interior of the car.
It's a very capable and (IMO) underrated EV, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.
