I've had pain in my left shoulder on and off for nearly 20yrs and gradually worsening. Recent MRI reveals "significant" partial tear of the supraspinatus. Shoulder surgeon has suggested a repair as the only fix, but not guaranteed due to the length of time I have had the issue and the condition of the tear. The recovery and time off work is the only thing holding me back from having it done so tempted to just live with it. Chances are it will eventually lead to a full tear and/or seperation. Interested to hear if anyone else has or has had similar?

Torn both my shoulders a good few times throughout my lifting career unfortunately; part of the game really...

Right shoulder is worse; but not that bad any more

Left shoulder fine

Neck however, is a mess, with a damage C5/C6 and impinged ulna nerve, which causes issues with my shoulder

I've torn my right supraspinatus 4 times; the infraspinatus twice; my left shoulder, both, twice... rolleyes Both teres minor have had impingement issues too; possibly torn but never diagnosed. Same with the subscapularis etc

For me the best treatment was with a dedicated sports physio here in Preston, who works for the GB/Commonwealth/Olympic teams and wrestling teams, so he knows a lot about buggered shoulders & necks laugh

I also used various exercises that you'll find on Youtube etc to rehab them; worth looking into

Thanks for replies. If it totally snaps can you function without it or do you have to have it repaired does anyone know?

It's a muscle, it won't snap, just tears etc... And it won't fully go; but it'll get worse if you don't try and get it rehabbed
