Well, I can say it's a real thing. My trusty Halfords Professional 1/2" torque wrench stopped doing the click when tightening up some wheel nuts.
Took it in and they exchanged it there and then with the latest greatest Advanced one whilst everyone had a good chuckle at having a 20+ year old tool being returned. I never thought they'd take it but I thought in for a penny and would have bought the new one anyway.

Excellent work.

I have also exchanged a set of hex keys although the quality was pretty poor.

I've got some Halfords Advanced stuff, I thought they were entitled to see a receipt for the purchase before exchanges. And that the guts could be replaced in their rachets.

They changed one of my spanner’s last year, no questions asked, great.
I did have me email receipt from 2017.
I get 10% off a Halfords gift card through a work perk, so the 200 piece cost £121.50!
The black set..

Did you have a receipt?

Always wondered about this. I have a 10mm ratchet ring spanner and the whole ratchet mechanism fell out the spanner. Just bought another for £5.99 on line. Next time I'm passing a Halfords I'll drop in. Don't have a receipt any more though and I'm about 90 mile from a store.

And to clarify, what used to be Halfords Professional is now Halfords Advanced?

Last time I took a broken socket back I was told they know longer exchange from stock and have to order the replacement in, not a problem for me as I regularly went past.
But if you’re 90miles away I’d call the store first.

Took my broken 3/8ths ratchet in to my local store last week, the lad just exchanged it for a new one, didn’t even ask to look at my receipt.
I’ve been using Halfords advanced/proffesional for years and years now and I think that’s the first thing I’ve ever had break.

In terms of being their premium tool range with lifetime warranty, yes it’s the same.

Tbh the quality of Halfords advanced stuff is great. I broke a breaker bar that I'd used a big cheater on. Didn't expect them to replace it due to abuse but they no questions replaced it, also give me a trade card which was nice.

I went in to replace a socket and the hex keys - they replaced the socket no question but not the hex keys.

The guy told me they'll replace anything with 'Advanced' stamped on it, but as the hex keys don't have anything to signify they were from an 'Advanced' set, he couldn't replace them unfortunately.

Agreed, they are poor quality in general, let alone next to the other tools in the kit.
