So I initially wanted a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. All of the ones I looked at needed rust repairs, were thrashed or generally not a car I wanted to buy with actual money. I then saw that I could now get insure on things with V8’s under the bonnet, and there was only one car I wanted at that point- the E92 M3!

Spent some time looking, and settled on this 3 owners from new, 83k car in Silverstone II. It has EDC, Logic 7 audio, adaptive headlights amongst other things. Has DAB radio too, impressive for a 2008 car! Haven’t drive it in anger yet whilst I recover from the flu (seller was kind enough to deliver, so I paid for his train ticket home). I’ll get some photos when I venture out in it properly!

I think the E92 shape is so right and that is by far and away my favourite colour. Look forward to impressions of the car!

Congratulations - Silverstone is definitely the best colour for an E92 M3! I had a 325i E92 a while ago, but always fancied upgrading to one of these if I'd been able to afford the fuel bill as an every day car. Never been a massive fan of the stock wheels though - looks much better on 359's IMHO.

Thanks all.

Finally got my first drive! Goes really nicely (who said these had no torque unless you’re at 8000rpm the whole time?) and makes a lovely noise. Will be even better with a slight fettle from Modstock or the like.

Also booked in with Ross from RBM Hampshire for the rod bearings and a DCT service in Feb.

Good to know you enjoyed your first drive!

I've been taking both my BMWs to Ross since he opened RBM in 2019 and always been very pleased with the work and prices. He did the bearing shells and engine mounts on my Z4M in 2020.

My m8 has a DCT one, incredibly fast shifts, feels very DTM, suits the engine to a tee.

I'm a bit guilty of that in fairness, and 6000rpm to 8400rpm was my favourite window with them. I never thought a lot happened below 6000rpm in all honesty, however mine was a manual, and I think the DCT helps a lot in that regard.

It is a stunning engine regardless, and I always liked that the S65 V8 was only ever put in the E9x as well.

I must admit that buying a V8 at this time of year was possibly a mistake, I’ve barely driven it as it’s been grey and cold miserable!

My trusty Kia daily has been taking a beating though, trip up to Hartlepool and back has left it look filthy and in need of a clean following the snow. Softy Southern snow in picture:

Also, that 200k+ M3 is seriously impressive! Shows that these aren’t as fragile as people make them out to be, provided they’re looked after properly.

Had a nice drive out to a local pub for a meal with friends tonight, all thoroughly enjoyed the car. Got a good chance to stretch its legs on some straights as well, this thing properly flies when you get the revs up! Did ping up an oil at minimum warning, so 4 litres of Shell’s finest 10W-60 ordered to add tomorrow.

They do seem to get through a bit of oil to be fair. I only had mine for 10months/10k miles, but I had to add 1 litre of oil as well in that time. Whereas my F82 M4 has never moved off the maximum mark in comparison, and I've done 34k miles in the that over almost 4 years for example.

Although I don't think much will beat the E90 330i that I had though, and that thing needed 1 litre of oil every 2k miles! I felt like I put more oil in that than petrol. hehe

Just a heads up, but AFAIK Ross is till using Castrol Supercar 10W-60 in these 2000s S engines, so that's probably what it will get when you have your bearing shells replaced.

Fab car OP. I think they really suit Silverstone Blue which helps show off the design details in my opinion. The V8 is a great engine and I’ve never thought of them as slow or lacking. With an 8,300rpm limit, you just need to make use do the rev range which is no chore given the noise.

Lovely car op
The E9x M3 has so much character with that V8.
I think these will be classics.
Enjoy

Yep. Castrol Supercall all the way. ETA used the same for mine. And yes they do like oil, mine was 1lt every 1,200 miles.

2nd set of wheels with decent all-seasons on and you're sorted wink

The Michelin CC2s on my 130i have been superb; as have the Goodyear Vector Gen 3s on our F31

My pal runs them on his E39 M5 over winter and he's done nothing but rave about them
