A friend has told me that there are an infinite number of srebbe64's - but all very slightly different. I'm really not happy about this, it makes me feel insecure, can someone shed some light on the subject please?

If I get an infinite number of replies I'll start to believe his hypothesis.

Well I know there are an infinite number of PH's, so that's fine!

A little light reading for you, mate:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_universe

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory

...and, as if you where not confused enough:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-branes

In a nutshell:

Any eventuality along a timeline that can happen has happened. Thos alternative actions are contemplated in alternative timelines. There may, indeed, be a timeline with no Srebbe64 because your parents elected to remain "just friends" as an example. There may also be a timeline where you have been elected as PM. Infinite hypothetical reactions to every nanosecond of linear time.

Plays havoc with time travel I can tell you (even with the flux capacitor and Mr Fusion).

The comic strip from the "Gruidan" depicting life in a rock pool (pooliverse) just about sums it up!....

All the crabs shouting: "The eyeballs!...The eyeballs in the sky are back!!!".....

As the kids and the dog all peer into the pool.

This is the "Multiverse" theory. In a nutshell, for eaxh and every possible outcome there is a universe in which it happens.

However, we would never be able to know this for definite, and the theory is not that widely accepted IIRC.

These mad theories usually pop up as an easy fix explanation for holes in mathematical theory for physics, to help balance equations. Later on a better mathematical description is usually found, so the older theory can be disregarded. Try reading some Stephen Hawkins if your interested.
