Track Insurance
Discussion
Just had my renewal through for the 911 GT3RS (991.1) Been using Classicline for a few years and its been perfect for both road & track cover, but just leant that they will no longer be offering cover on the GT3rs on track as part of the road policy. (Stated in my renewal letter) I spoke with Classcline and this is due to the insurer pulling this particular car from being covered on track. They will still cover the normal GT3 however. Anyone here with a RS using anyone else for track cover as part of their road policy?
Separate track cover is pretty steep from the quotes iv had anything from £600 - £1000 a day for cover.

+1 on A Plan Thatcham, who have just been renamed to Howdens Thatcham.
I don't know about the RS. But they have been very helpful with every insurance challenge I've thrown them. They used to have a great policy with Marker Study that included 5x track days a year, which was so popular it sold out. The policy on my sports car has just come down.
The only challenge they haven't been able to fix for me is cover for a non road legal race car when in garage/ being transported etc. They can cover a car that is laid up, but not one that is being used. Anyone know of a solution?

These companies allegedly still provide free or optional cover: Manning UK, REIS Motorsport Insurance, Lockton Performance, A-Plan (Howden Performance Division).
Cheers. I'll give all those a call tomorrowSo far best quote I have had from anyone is 400 a day as a bolt on.
Will be giving all of the above a go tomorrow. Will report back with findings.
Moris are about £280 a day for a standalone track policy at a UK circuit that isn’t castle combe. European days are basically £500.
CL were happy recently to add a pair of European dates to my existing policy for their usual fee. I understand European coverage for existing policies depends on who is the underwriter behind your policy.
ERS will still extend cover to European dates and more than 6 UK for legacy policies. I understand for renewals or new business ERS will not cover trackdays at all.
Apparently CL are discussing with other underwriters if they can put together a track coverage option that’s closer to previous offer. But this will not be until later in the Summer if at all.

Just to confirm what others have said;
After getting confirmation from Classicline of the changes I tried looking into alternatives for my Exige 410.
One off track day cover from Moris / Insure my trackday type places was around £450 per day. That's a no go for me.
At Silverstone on 17th March a few fellow lotus owners said they had moved to Mannings and got a good quote with unlimited track days. This was initially looking very good with a competitive quote, until the broker called me back very apologetic and said that their underwriter was now also not covering track days. (Which makes sense, as I believe it may be the same underwriters that Classicline use?) Manning did also quote me for single day cover but it was still over £400 per day.
So I've ended up renewing with Classicline for this year. As stated previously, club days with Lotus On Track are included but any other days will be an extra £135.
I will have done 2 track days this year on my existing policy, so at least I can do a total of 8 track days this year.
However, if nothing else changes insurance wise by the end of the year then I may well have to say farewell to the Exige and get a cheaper track car for the future.

I've just spoken with them and although club trackdays are free, they do form part of the total of 6 included days. So if you do more than 6 trackdays a year and want insurance you'll need a top-up from somewhere.I just spoke with Mannings and it's sounding like unless you know the dates of all your upcoming trackdays it will be on a one-by-one basis, which would be too expensive. They'll call me back next week so I'll know more then.
If I went with CL again I'd need to top up the 6 included days. Moris are quoting me (Alpine A110) £993 for 4 days or £1136 for 5 days. 2 years ago it was less than £110 for 9 days!

That's why this change could effectively end my ownership of the Exige unfortunately. I don't think 6 track days a year is enough for me.

Yeah, that's right. You're limited to 6 days in total regardless of who they are with. And due to the cost of individual cover, I'd struggle to justify paying it.

This is where I’m at as well. Might have to get a Caterham which is no hardship at all but a bit more limited for other stuff. That's why this change could effectively end my ownership of the Exige unfortunately. I don't think 6 track days a year is enough for me.
Maybe I’m tight but I just don’t want to pay more for trackday insurance than the actual track day.
A-Plan are calling me back with what they can offer Monday. They seemed to think they might be able to do something so will see.
