Popped to my local after work, village type pub not in the city, a freehouse not a chain-pub ordered a couple of Stellas and was releived of £5.50, so that's £2.75 a pint now, how long before as rural folk hit £3?

What do you pay folks?

Do you always drink your beer two pints at a time?(Sure you ain't got no mates) Why don't you see if they'll do a deal on a gallon? (Any less than that's not a proper drink anyway)

Now in Russia, you can get say Baltica for about $.50 a pint in a bar, less in a bottle from a kiosk.

You can buy it from the kiosk, they will open it for you if you want, and you can walk down the street drinking it, and if Ivan Law sees you drinking it, at most he'll as you to buy him one as well....

Around here, a good microbrew in a decent pub will set you back $2.75 to $3.50 (pint)

There's a lot of rubbish talked about the strength of spirits. People confuse percentage 'proof' figure with those for percentage volume of alcohol.

There's a good explanation on this site.

If you are not fussy where you drink (or what you drink) you can still occasionally find bitter for £1.00 a pint in Wigan.

I am a man of particularly low standards, but even I decline to seek out £1.00 a pint, such are the sacrifices of taste and decency that accompany this Scrooge like behaviour.

I paid £1.50 for a pint of John Smith's this lunchtime.

Cheers

Are you sure that is not just a figure of speach ("go blind" )? After all, Bacardi 151 is about 75% alcohol by volume and while it will impair your eyesight, it has no long term occular effects...

...normally drink that "makes you go blind" (in the true sense) refers to badly distilled spirits that contains chemicals that can actually permanently impair your vision (spirits are usually unlicensed and illegal, eg: "moonshine" ).
