Wire plug to a floodlight

Quick question hopefully. I bought some floodlights to replace broken ones and wired them up to the existing wire, connected to a lightswitch, all good.

Another one would be easier to plug into an outside socket, but not many come with UK plugs on the wires, can I just add a plug and it will work fine? I have in my head that lighting voltage is different to plug sockets but I'm not an expert at all.

Don't worry. The voltage is the same. It'll work fine as long as the socket is waterproof. If you get an LED floodlight, it'll draw a lot less current and save you money too.

As a minimum, put a 1A fuse in the plug.

I wouldn't do it like that - off a fused connection unit may be okay, but - not having a go - it doesn't sound like you are at that level.

Assuming the new light unit isn't designed to connect to some transformer and is 240V then a 3 pin plug CORRECTLY WIRED will be OK
I use an LED floodlight with a 3 pin plug as an inspection/work light in the garage.

I've dome similar to a PIR bulkhead light that I fitted under my carport. I bought some flexi cable and fitted a plug, and plugged it into a nearby outdoor water proof socket. Nice and easy and the light comes on when detecting movement.
