I currently have an F15 X5 M sport and one of the functions I find really handy is the speed limiter where I can press the "LIM" button on my steering wheel and it detects the current speed and then doesn't allow me to go above this speed, it's particularly useful for the average speed cameras.

I'm looking at an iX to save money (business purchase) but from what I can see with newer BMW's this speed limiter feature has changed and now instead of limiting the speed to the speed you're at it limits it to the speed of the road instead based on the road signs the cameras have picked up on.

Can you override this and set it at the speed you want, or is it speed limit or nothing?

Yes you can set it to whatever speed you want.

I go through 10+ average cams every day and I find my eyes and right foot generally work well for that.

I've only used LIM once, which was by accident not long after I got the car and wondered why the car wouldn't accelerate off the roundabout.

Really? Aren't new cars obliged to bing and bong once the actual limit is breached?

TX.

Thay are but you can turn it off. I've just had a test drive today and I could indeed set the limit to what I want, however I found the seat of the iX uncomfortable giving me a numb right bum cheek after 30 mins so it's unlikely I'm going to pursue this option now frown

You can floor the accelerator pedal to override the limiter - one ‘safety’ feature I approve of.

In fact the system on my F30 is
Sport: reacts rapidly to throttle pedal depression
Drive: acts normally to throttle pedal depression
Cruise: requires a larger depression override
Limiter: requires a substantial depression to override.
All are just as you would wish them to be - indeed on ‘Limiter’ you can use the throttle as a right footrest.
