Vanquish Gen II- Considering A Secondary Decat..
Discussion
Happy New Year to Everyone!
I have had my Gen II Carbon Edition Vanquish for over a year now, the car has been fantastic so far and exceeded expectations, great fun, especially since I fitted the CCCharger exhaust valve controller, which even on its own has been pretty transformational in terms of how the car sounds.
Windows are now more frequently down than up in good weather
I am now considering a secondary decat, which will give a even more pleasing sound from the V12 and be more or less the 'S' exhaust sound which is decat from factory, most people who have had this done seem positive about it from the little I have found online so far. Of course it is reversible as I will be keeping the original pipes too, if/when time comes to move the car on if it must go back to factory.
I wanted to ask any current or previous Vanquish owners their thoughts? Any downsides? Obviously, its just the secondary decat pipes so MOT should not be an issue i presume.
The other point I would really appreciate some advice on is pricing and the different options. From what I remember when I asked, the Aston parts plus labour came out to in the region of 900-950 GBP about a year ago so perhaps more now.
Quite pricey (for what it is) but would not stop me from doing it. The quicksilver pipes are in the region of 800-900 from what I have seen so same as Aston more or less. There is a company called RP Motorworks who have decat pipes available for circa 350- but I have no experience of them or their products. Anyone used them?
Are there any other viable options, or is the OEM part really the best to go with?
Thanks in advance for any advice..

Hi Chad, I have the CC Charger module and decat on my Vanquish and it’s well worth doing. The decat raises the volume nicely, not too much but just enough. I have the RP Motorworks decat pipes, they are great quality and for what it does is a no brainer due to the lower cost than OEM.
Hope this helps

I have actually thought about that too, but mainly for the benefit of it eliminating the primary cat ingestion issue, although risk is apparently very small.
But I think that would perhaps be too loud for me and step too far.
Thank you, good to know the RP Motorworks is a good product, as that was what I was considering getting.
Oddly, they don't list the Vanquish on their site- but list almost every other V12 variant.
Apparently, they fit all VH era V12's direct fit no further mod required including Vanquish Gen II, this is the link I have:
https://www.rpmotorworks.co.uk/products/21/aston-m...
Does anyone else have any experience?
Also, thought I would ask- does the decat have any impact in terms of the dreaded 'motorway drone' at stable speed of 70-80?

When I had my Vanquish I changed the secondary cats to straight through, 60 min job if you can raise the car.
I looked around before purchasing and found the genuine AM straight through cats as fitted to the Vanquish S were the most cost effective (£600) and would not invalidate any Timeless Warranty as they are branded AM.
I purchased through Grange in Birmingham, they do give a broader sound spectrum no droning at all and I would recommend.

Thanks again will give them a call to see if in stock.
Have you had any issues with drome at all?
I got a higher price than 600 from AM if I remember closer to 900, but it wasn't via Grange (who I know and have used) but from another AM main dealer who are local to me and have serviced my car. I would use AM parts generally, but my Timeless warranty has run out a few months ago, so no benefit with regards to that.
May give Grange a call as if the they are still closer to 600 then thats a good option too.
Kind of off topic, but I would be curious if anyone has done anything else with their Vanquish in terms of modifications and/or improvements?
To me a remap of circa 30 bhp to get it to 'S' power level seemed a bit pointless on N/A car, as its around 4% increase, and on a car this powerful and fast to begin (8 speed, 2015) I just had my doubts it would be noticeable enough 99% of the time to justify the effort. Not sure if anyone has done it, and has any thoughts on the issue and if worthwhile..
Bamford Rose who unfortunately are miles away from me offer this and apparently 30 or so lb of extra torque is also released in lower gears which the S has over the standard Vanquish.

I have the RP Motorworks decat pipes on my V12VS. Great quality, appear as good as the Quicksilver decat pipes (official AM fitment) that I had on my 4.7 Vantage. I will go back to RPM if I need any more exhaust products in future. Fitted by my local MOT and exhaust garage for 90 mins labour, £140. The dealer option would be similar pipes at £900 plus over £300 in labour.
No issues with drone when the exhaust valves are shut when cruising. The only issue I have is they are a little more noisy than I would like on the cold start cycle which has valves open for a while. Not great for early morning getaways
I might have to get a 3 way switch fitted so I can keep the valves closed from a cold start.

Thanks a lot for the feedback- good to know.
The sound is not really a worry for me, although I do know what you mean sometimes when starting the car valves open even without decat it can give people a bit of s shock, have had more than a few looks by people thinking what on earth was that!
I will order a pair, looking forward to spring even more now

I changed out the secondary cats for the Fabspeed H-Pipe here in the US. I had first added the valve controller, which was nice to get that sort of control and not have the open/close nonsense with terrible hysteresis. The H-pipe didn't make as much of a change as I hoped. It's only slightly louder with the valves open, with also a slight change in tone. No drones with valves open or closed. All still quiet with the valves closed. Overall a great sound and volume.
Did you get the RPM secondary decats for your Vanquish Chad? If so, I would be grateful if you could share your opinions. I have the same setup as you as in a Vanquish with the CC exhaust valve remote and have been thinking of getting the secondaries done too. I have similar concerns to you as in how much extra noise does it give and any droning etc? Thanks.
