Whereabouts in the country are you? It seems a rather full fat price but it is the middle of winter - you might get a better deal if you can wait a bit.

I am in Surrey, down south. Didn’t think waiting would make a difference. On hetable same boiler and work is £4.2k.

I haven’t, I live in a mid terrace home and didn’t think it would be possible.

Sounds a lot to me. I had a WB30 installed and position moved from an end wall in the garage to a side wall for 2.5k. That was 4 years ago and in Epsom

We were in exactly the same situation last year. Same layout, same relocation problem with lots of re-routing of pipes, gas, & electric.

We tried to keep the work local, but after lots of no-shows/disinterest (and one local chap who was honest enough to say he didn't understand the existing system), I got a quote from Heatable - a national company.

We opted for a Viessmann top-of-the-range (having had a bad experience with WB in the past) and the final bill came in at £3.5k fully sorted in less than a day.

We are going from the kitchen to the loft, gas connection there is the older type type, cupboard is too is all for a new boiler. Heatable is 4.2k

Doesn’t help having a mid terrace.

What was your system you replaced.

Father in law has just had his old boiler in the garage removed and replaced with a new WB Combi, Cistern removed, large water tank in loft removed, remote control.....4 bedroomed house.

£5200 all in.

British Gas with ten year guarantee and five years free servicing.

Fitter only lived two miles away, and said any problems call him anytime.

He was polite, efficient and cleaned up all the mess,

I told him he might have saved a couple of thou getting a local bloke in, but he wanted to "stick with a name he knew" and at 88 didn't want any hassle with potential cowboys.

Fair enough.

That's a good start and may well work.

We got an online quote from BOXT for our install. It was about £3.5k

We then got a quote from British Gas for £5k.

We went with British Gas & I can understand why they were more expensive. A surveyor was here for well over an hour and the install from Boxt wouldn't have worked for a number of reasons. You might say that's sales' BS, but I believed the guy.

An engineer turned up exactly at the time planned.
A sparky turned up to make some amendments to the electrical side
A bricky turned up to make good the flue reposition
A waste company turned up to dispose of the old kit & packaging

So, not the cheapest but I was well impressed, and you know where British Gas are if things go Pete Tong.

Just my experience. I'm sure plenty have hassle free instal from Boxt too. yes

Very similar work to what we need other than the location. We have BG booked to come out in 2 weeks.

We were around £3.5k two and a half years ago for replacing old Baxiboiler with WB Greenstar. New flue. Remove old cistern and attic cold water tank. Pipe re-routing. New controls - Bosch Easycontrol. Glasgow area.

It took two guys two full 8am-6pm days to do it. Very tidy job.

Another local company quoted £5'500 for the same job with similar boiler. I feel while their quote didn't break it down in detail for labour V parts they were trying to pull my pants down for at least £3500 for 4x man days labour.

Boxt is a good starting point. Our £3500 was a few hundred higher but I don't think the Boxt quote included the new pipework required swapping from an old tank and cistern system to a combi.

It was a while back, but last time I got a new boiler, I looked at Ideal and WB websites to find their local approved service and install firms, then looked at the reviews of those firms, before getting a couple in to quote. While I was at it, I got them to quote for the annual servicing.

A local 2 man firm with a good reputation was close enough in price, it's handy if they are local if anything goes wrong. And sensible servicing price adds up over the 10 year warranty period.

I had issues with the boiler, it was useful that the installer was on their approved list.

Make sure the quotes are a fair comparison with options like weather comp or whatever controls you want.
Make sure the installer understands any hi-tech controls.
The weather comp on mine never worked in any useful way.

Ours is for 3 days quoted work.

Think I paid around than that for an almost like-for-like replacement from a non-condensing traditional gas boiler (rated F) to an equivalent condensing one (rated A+). I got quotes from a number of local firms but in the end went with British Gas as a) they were actually significantly cheaper and b) they were giving 4 years interest-free credit so it's only costing me something like £100-odd a month. And they threw in full HomeCare cover on the Central Heating for the first year too. And the price included (at my request, as an extra-cost option) replacing the Thermostatic Radiator values on every radiator in the house as some had ones that were 20-odd years old and some didn't even have them.

Boiler was already in the loft. The only thing that needed adding was a condensate overflow pipe. Kept the existing hot water tank in the airing cupboard as it was fine.

The best thing is that my gas bills have gone down by way more than my monthly payments so I'm quids in.
