Head scratching this.

MiL has a 2023 Model CR-V Hybrid and it seems the 12V has gone dead. But in doing so it seems like we can't get into the car at all. Not even with the little blade hidden in the fob.

I found this thread on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/crv/comments/1c82krf/crv_...

Which seems to suggest that on some 2023 CR-V models, then this key lock is not connected to anything mechanical. So when the 12V is dead, that doesn't work either. This was word from Honda UKs mouth as well! Even the Honda Tech couldn't open the car and they had to jack the thing up at the front and reach up to get the bonnet catch. This seems like an egregious oversight to me.

Nothing in the manual about this.

I can't see any other way of getting some 12V juice into the car without opening it? or at least opening the bonnet from the outside?

Is there a manual, mechanical door lever inside the car door? So if you were in a crash and the electricals failed, how do you get out or emergency services get to you?

It's a very good question. The handle is definitely mechanical. As long as the door is unlocked then it will open. Maybe they have some system in place that if it detects a crash unlocks any locks or has little charges that blow the latches. I don't know.

We did get into in the end. We tried with an airbag to prise the door frame away from the body and use a long rod to try hook the bonnet release. It was too stiff though and then it got caught in the trim.

AA guy (4th guy that day!) turned up who seemed to have some semblance of what the was going on. Dropped all the front under trays, and then almost by luck, got a screw driver to the bonnet latch and flicked it open. Got a 12V on the battery and it all came back to life like there was nothing wrong!

Suffice to say I don't think this car is going to reign much longer.

Might be worth wiring a weatherproof 12v connector to the battery, via an in-line fuse, that can be accessed without unlocking the car. E.g. tucked behind an arch liner or under a bumper. That way you can at least connect a charger and get some life into the battery should it go flat again.

Yes, was thinking exactly this.
